I've just started to get in to hunting and am wondering where the best place is to get some basic camo clothing that won't break the bank. If I take it up seriously, I'm sure I will find ways to buy real fancy stuff :)

My buddy has a camo jacket which can be turned inside out and become blaze orange. Dual purpose stuff like that might be the ticket.

Any suggestions?

honestly yhte yukon gear from Canadain tire is decent, $300 will outfit you top to bottom. My waterproof winter cammo jacket with puffy style removable liner has lasted years and only cost $150, the pants (water proof) and long sleeve shirt rounded it out about $250, then gloves and a hat

What hunting are you planning? If neither archery nor waterfowl nor a few other particular situations, camo won't really help you any.

The stuff at walmart is good. I still use mine. Boots are another matter though. I have a walls "blizzard pruf" camo coverall that I have had for 16 years.

where are you? If you're close to a Bass Pro or Cabela's, it's a decent place to get in on the cheap.

Also, put out a request at your local fish and game club- see if anyone's got stuff to sell?

might also try a WTB ad on the EE?

giant tiger has cheap warm camo that is reversible to hunter Orange. also supports ducks unlimited.

I second the ducks unlimited clothing. Bought a jacket last year. Reversible so it is blaze or camo. Very warm. Also bought a vest (plain brown, not a hunting vest) that is very warm, heavy duty and lots of pockets. Love it for outdoors stuff. I actually wore the vest under the jacket on very cold days. Lots of places to store things (gps, shells, spare battery's, tags, etc).

I've had a few of the ducks unlimited things from giant tiger, socks, insulated pants, shirts. I haven't tried any of the jackets, but everything i have gotten has been of good quality

not real sure why people go so ape#### over camo for hunting big game. I can see it for waterfowl and maybe bowhunting, but rifle hunting?? I have almost no camo gear and somehow manage to fill my tags every year. My wife shot her biggest buck while wearing a flourescent pink fleece jacket, and her red hair blowing all over the place. I have worn camo once or twice, but that is only because I went hunting directly from work and CADPAT still didn't cause any problems.
I have a buddy who has 5 COMPLETE sets of camo in different patterns, all of his rifles and his bow are camo pattern, and yet, in 7 years of hunting, the only time he has scored a hit was once with me (no camo on my body) and once with his Father (he wore a camo ball cap). However, most nice gear is made in camo and it actually goes on sale, whereas regular under armour, insulating layers, outer layers, etc., rarely do so and so it is therefore less expensive to outfit yourself in new camo gear instead of regular outdoor gear.

I second (or third or fourth) the giant tiger ducks unlimited clothing. I just purchased a mossy oak fleece longsleeve shirt from there before a camping trip this fall, and will be heading back to get another before leaving for moose. Great deal at twenty bucks.

I also found a Canadian Tire brand of insulated waterproof pant from their Barrie store for $35ish when outfitting myself for Turkey on a budget. I love them, very warm and comfortable, like hunting in trackpants. If I can track down the make I will update my post.

Just keep an eye on the flyers and try to find stuff post season when it's being liquidated off the store shelves to make room for the next seasonal big ticket items.

One thing to consider about reversible clothing is if you are using the same jacket for turkey you have to be very careful to hide the orange. Meaning you cant unzip your jacket on a warmer day or you'll stand out.
The advice given to me when I was asking the same questions last year to my hunting buddies was to just go all camo, and have a vest for big game if you use the same clothes.

I bought the camo hoodie/tshirt/pants from giant tiger about 3 years ago now.

Don't use them for hunting but nearly every hike I take.

baught some under armour ridge reaper bibs ,jacket, gloves etc.... this year, very good quality for the price ratio, but not as warm as the manufacture brags it to be. cold gear to me is just a sales pitch, got everything for under 600.00$ not sure the cheap stuff is worth it!!!! i had some before like thermo king , jackfield sports etc..zippers fail, pocket linings bust trough etc.... just from my experience and i spend all my free time and money$$$$$$ outdoors yours truly!!!!!

I got my camo stuff at Wal-Mart roughly 5 years ago and wear it for everything - hunting, snowmobiling, going to the range, yard work etc. You name it. I really can't complain about how well it has lasted given the price (fraction of the price of Under Armor) and how much I use it.

Keep an eye out on the cabelas website under the bargain cave, every once in a while you can get hooked up on some great gear for cheap! I've had nothing but bad experiences using the cheap BassPro RedHead gear. If you can find a cheap, but quiet vest to put over camo outerwear you might be better off, just my .02
