Looking to spend 3k on an ar, what would you buy....

How much are the Vltor rifles with Noveske barrels Armtac is bringing in? Those are ###y rifles.

Having just picked up an ACR I will suggest one of those too :)

If you don't mind the price the KAC will do everything you want.

That being said, in the States a number of people have gone the Karl Stoner route. Ambi KAC lower, with LMT mrp upper. That would be with the SS barrel though.

KAC, Noveske, LMT mrp and a few other high quality AR rifles will all meet your expectations. Just keep in mind these 3 offer different strengths. The KAC is light, high quality and ambi. Good features but expensive. The LMT offers monolithic rail, barrel options including SS Mike Rock barrels that you can change quickly yourself, excellent quality and a complete package. The trigger is the only thing I would improve. The KAC comes with a nice trigger although many are switching them out for Giselle triggers anyways. The Noveske offers a high end barrel and quality parts.

My preference would be for the KAC except it's hard to justify the cost. The MRP is the deal and I'm pretty fond of their high end products. There clearly is a relationship between the two. The lower on my LMT MWS is identical to the KAC SR25 lower except for markings and a lack of ambi bolt release. The KAC has the LMT Sopmod stock. The LMT MWS comes with a KAC magazine. Who knows what else is interchanged.

One more possibility. ADCOR upper with ambi lower. Until I get mine I can't say for sure how it stacks up. It's also a piston upper which I normally avoid.

The conclusion? There isn't one perfect AR.

Through all of this, OP hasn't stated and no one has asked what this rifle will be used for.

If its for any sort of competition, 3 gun etc, I would strongly recommend a JP CTR-02.
The tolerances on the thing are amazing, and I'm lucky enough to be getting awesome accuracy with factory Hornady Steel Match ammo.
If I do my part, I get sub MOA all day.
Due to the comp and the tuned rifle length gas system, recoil is non existent
The trigger breaks like glass.

If its just an expensive range toy, then whatever floats your boat.
Good recommendations already given

To be honest you should do this:

*Norc AR: $900 (Don't laugh, they run and you can learn on them. If you progress to the point that you are proficient, and the little things begin to matter to you, then you can upgrade).
*Aimpoint H1 Micro and quality mount: $700 (If you like it you can transfer it to a "better" rifle later).
* 6 pack of Magpul P-mags: $120
*2000 rounds of .223 = $750
*2 Day Carbine training course from a respected and knowledgeable instructor: $500
*Regular practice of the things you learned in your course, timed drills, etc.

Practice for a year with the above equipment, etc, and I guarantee you that you would be able to shoot better than about 95% of the people that post on this board.

Already tried that, apparently norc = hipoint

This is falling on deaf ears in this thread. Starts at post 23

Not everyone thinks that a $700 investment in a Norc M4 is a good one. ;)

When someone asks for advice on what tier one AR to buy for 3k then you tell the guy to buy a Norc because they are cheap is like when someone asks what is the best five star restaurant to take his wife out to in order to get lucky and you tell him to slam his c*ck in a car door because it is cheaper.

Not everyone thinks dropping 3K for a brand name is a wise investment either :) At least I didn't need to buy stock in loctite :p

Actually it was more like he asked what ar I would buy for 3K. But cool story.

I'm curious to konw if this logical approach also applies for everything else?

Trucks?
Kithchen appliances?
ATVs?
Shop Yools?
TVs and Surround sound amplifiers?
Guitars and amps?

If the guy wants to spent up to $3k just for the AR, perhaps he's got 2x the toy-spending money then most other guys do?

Furthermore, how can you assume he hasn't been shooting a NR black rifle for the last 5 years and he's now looking for a range-queen, er an AR?

Perhaps he's been in the long range precision shooting scene for a while and knows that a certain level quality and reliability comes at a certain price point? Perhaps he also understands that resale value of mid to higher-end rifles is better than entry level rifles?

Are you telling us that if you'd get a free $3K shopping gift JUST for a rifle that you wouldn't spend it on the higher-end products? I'd find that hard to believe.
