Hi everyone,

Very interested in adding a gun to my collection - a French 1892 Revolver in 8mm lebel

I know a little bit about the gun, but would like to learn more! I plan to just own it as a collectible, hope it increases in value.

Of course I want to fire it a few times to ensure it works - now the problem.

Is it difficult to find 8mm lebel ammo? I have no knowledge of making ammo and don't intend to, is it possible to buy some somewhere? I don't plan to shoot the gun that often but it would be nice to have the ammo in case I decide to go plinking at buddy's farm.

Thanks guys! and take care

No expert but they are supposed to be a high quality revolver.
And unless somebody is making you some ammo you will most likely have a very expensive paperweight.
Folks who are more familiar with this round will be along soon

fioochi makes 8 mm lebel revolver ammo but getting it might take a while to find and get it andd you might have to order a case. but you can always reload. i have bought two of those revolvers from the states. collectable firearms and edged weapons ( more expensive but better condition). antique firearms also has them (700$ us but getting it into canada cost 150$+. good hunting

I was very close to purchasing it but the owner says he does not know if it is safe to fire.... ??? doesn't sound too promising

Same with any antique you will buy, the decision to fire it or not rests wholly with yourself as the shooter/owner/operator; it is entirely up to you as the shooter/owner/operator to ensure the firearm is safe to fire and that the loads are safe, etc etc etc.

Good luck whatever you decide, these are nice revolvers either way

They can be intresting because you can pull the trigger to reload them it spins the cylinder it has caused people to shoot them self in the foot and it's docmented to have done that. They're really neat little guns with a rimmed case so you have to be setup to reload rimed cases you can buy factory ammo for them still.

Read this.

some info i collected. Is definitely cool gun but you will have to make the ammo for it. I owned two and still have one. Love the gun. Where are you located? maybe i can be of some help. I am no expert but have some knowledge on the gun.

Thanks!! A few people on here have really took some time to answer my questions address my concerns

Really appreciate it!

I'm in Windsor! Have it on the way!

Was on the EE for 1100 I got it for pretty much 1000$

Can't wait! Just to add it to my collection!

I also own a Remington 870 - still have not had the opportunity to shoot it!

I'd like to join the range but I'm looking for job contracts in Ontario and will move soon hopefully, that's why I haven't shot it. And I could shoot it at buddy's farm if I'd like to make the drive.

Take care
