Advice on which 30-30 to get!

Looking for an affordable lever, does anyone have the mossberg 464? Also are the new remlins still crap or has quality improved. Having a hard time finding a used rifle that's not overpriced. Any info would be great thx
 
Model 94. Somthing about them I love. Personally i wouldn't get to hung up on the whole pre 64 deal. I have a 1977 model 94 30-30. It has always worked perfect! I would also highly suggest not buying a Mossberg. That being totally based on my personal opion. The 94's are awesome guns!
 
Well, I own a top-eject Win Mod-94. If you ever want to mount a scope (for when your eyes start to give out), a newer angle eject would be the way to go.
 
I have had both winchester and marlin and for me the marlin is a nicer gun. I find the action smother and I like the side eject for a scope. You should be able to find an older marlin someplace.
 
Either an older Marlin or Winchester would be my choice. With a little patience you should be able to find one on the EE for around 350. I have both, and prefer the marlin. But I love them both! Good luck.
 
I just got a mossberg 464, after doing a bunch of research on line and handling the Win, Marlin and Mossberg.

The Win was nice because of it's classic rifling (as opposed to micro-groove), and it was nice and light, but I'm a guy that definitely prefers scopes, and the top eject on commonly available 94's is a PITA. Not a huge fan of straight grips either, myself.

The Marlins feel great to me, but I'm not a fan of their micro-groove rifling for shootings cast bullets, and I've personally experienced all sorts of issues with newer Marlingtons.

The Mossberg is angle eject, pre-drilled and tapped for scope, has classic (non micro-groove) rifling, feels very much like the Marlin (That's a positive for me, as I prefer rounded pistol grips), and is widely reported as being notably stronger than either the Win or the Marlin, with some wondering if/when Mossberg will introduce it in .308 win. After looking at all three rifles from an unbiased perspective, the Mossberg just seemed the obvious choice for me.
 
What do you want your lever gun to do and how much do you want to spend? Lever actions cover a broad spectrum from the "classic" tube fed gun shooting flat nosed bullets to the magazine fed models able to shoot, dare I say, more "modern" chambered, faster pointed bullets? Looking for a run of the mill 30 cal. or something with a little more ummphh, like a 375 or 45-70?
