The wife has recently shown an interest in firearms. After seeing and handling the small Norinco M93 Woodsman I got for my daughter her first question was "What kind did you get for me?"
Now I don't know about the rest of you, but that sounded like an open invite to buy another gun? She suggested that she wants a Glock like mine, but that isn't in the budget since my extra cash is currently tied up waiting for the S&W M&P 15's. I was looking at some of the other Norinco pistols and wanted to get some feedback from others here. I am thinking either 9mm since that will be my next pistol or .40 since that is what I currently have. And the grip has to be suitable for the wifes hands. Anybody have any input on a sub $400 pistol?

Get her what she wants or ELSE..

I would suggest the Norinco NP22(Sig 226 clone)..There are a few at the range have them and are quite pleased with them...SFRC had them on for $359.00 but are recently sold out. They shouldn't be to hard to find...

lol... She says Glock because that is the only name she knows. I am also thinking I wouldn't mind a little more diversity in the gun room. If she gets a glock then I am stuck shooting another Glock.. Not that, that is a terrible thing, but I have had mine for coming on 11 years and wanted something different to shoot for those days she can't make it to the range.

I was looking at those but am hesitant on the grip. I shot a real 226 many years ago and found the grip to be fairly large and wonder if it might uncomfortable for her?

To keep it under 400 bucks you are pretty limited to what you can get.
Norinco seems to be in that 400 range.
I have owned a few Norc NP29s and they all ran reliable.

The Nork 1911 9mm is a good suggestion, but its corners and finishing are too sharp and rough for a woman's smooth hands.

The worst you can do is cheap out on your wife. That is no way to earn points, brother. Get her a pistol that is in the same price range as your own, or higher. Even if you have to sacrifice your next purchase. You want to endear yourself to her. Look at the practical side, you can still shoot her pistol so get her a nice one.

Take her to the gun store and make her choose her own. Happy wife = happy life!:) JMHO.

That's what I did with mine. I have a Shadow which she loves but finds it heavy after awhile. She also liked the Jerichos and M&P 9, which is what we went with in the end. Good luck with it, just remember once she learns to shoot, she is just that much more dangerous!

WHAT HE SAID.. Do you want to STAY married ?? My Moto is Do you want to be Right or Happy? Dude get with it..

Was that "First Pistol for First wife" ?

Tokarev TT33 all the way. For $170 you have a good plinker that eats cheap ammo! Tiny grip too. Ruger SR9 or SAM 1911 are just above that $400 price range... and most would take them over the Norinco pistols. A CZ75b has a thin grip and can be had at decent prices, used on the EE. Lots of choice. I wouldn't skimp on the pistol as the cost to feed it in the long run will supersede the price of the gun.

If you buy her something she ends up not liking, she will nag you until you get her that Glock... women are good at that :p

SAM 1911 in 9mm. Better finish than the Norc's and only a few bucks more, Wolverine brings these in from the Philippines. If you can't go above $400 then you're basically looking at .22's

My wife has small hands. I have had her handle about 75 different model pistols and very few were comfortable. The difficult part was reaching the trigger.

Most of the guns that fit her hand well are 12.6. Is that an option for you?

Her favourites are a Charter Arms Bull Pup in 44 Spl and a M&P 40. The M&P has 3 different backstraps, and the smallest works well for her. I load mild ammo for it and the trigger is quite nice out of the box. It has an Apex kit now and is an outstanding trigger.

The Norc Sig and CZ are too big. The 1911 is no good for her, but is smaller than many others.

I had a 5'3" 120 lb girl to the range, she shot my Sig 220 45 and she had no problem reaching the trigger (full sized pistol). If the OP's wife is at least of average size, she shouldn't have much of a problem.

Smallest grip that I own is on a Sig p239, but it's a $1000 pistol. Tiny single stack grip and shortened reach.

Whatever you pick make sure it's pretty.
I'd suggest showing her some different things and see what she gravitates towards.

My wife loves her Kimber Rimfire Target, that I got her for her birthday last March. Arma Coat did the finish.
