The brought my recently purchased Norinco M-93 Sportsman/Woodsman to the range a few days ago.
Approximately after the first 20 rounds, the slide stops going back to its forward position after I pull the slide back or after firing a shot.
One of the range officers was kind enough to help me determine one of the springs may be broken. I immediately brought the firearm back to the place of purchase and they confirmed indeed one of the springs was broken and they'll send it back to Norinco for service. They quoted a turnaround time of 2-3 months. Damn.

My question now is, has anyone else had to send anything back to Norinco for service? How was the overall experience?

I would have just sourced a spring .... It's a spring.... There are suppliers that supply thousands of types of springs...
I bet I have a suitable spring rolling around in my parts bin...

You don't think they're gonba send your $200 pistol all the way back to china for a spring...?

who on Gods earth is your retailer? They have the worst service ever.

No way your gun will be shipped to Norinco China. They are just pulling your chain.

If your retailer can't fix a simple thing like a Brocken spring I don't know why you are dealing with them.

I guess that is why when it comes to Norinco I only buy from Marstar. They service what they sell.

That's what I thought. I was hoping they would just install a new spring for me. I'm too inexperience to do it myself. However, they just said they would send it back. I dont want to incur expensive service charges for bringing it to a gunsmith myself for such a cheap pistol.

Yeah, I'm hoping that they would just repair it locally rather than sending it back, lengthening the turnaround time.

I don't want to disclose the name of the retainer yet at the moment. I'm not exactly upset with their service (yet) and have been satisfied with their service so far.
This was the first time I've dealt with them, they're sponsors here on Canadian Gun Nutz and prior to giving them my patronage, I've read they're very reputable dealers.

One of these pistols exploded in my hands sending all the small parts across the floor.
I collected all of them and inspected carefully. Frontier Firearms replaced the gun immediately.
I sold the new, unfired one and won't be buying another anytime soon. There is a reason for that ;)

on the other hand , i've had one for almost 10 years and never had a lick of trouble out of it- got through lever, but i've NEVER TAKEN IT APART- cleaned it as best i can just like my other mounted barrel pistols- now if you can find someone to work on it, it's a pre-ww1 woodsman , so that gives you a place to start- and mine was not 200- try 50-75 bsn when they came out

When it comes to norinco, Marstar are the only ones to purchase from. I had issues with my sks and Marstar sent me the replacement part right away. They Seem to keep spares to service their customers, even when it says sold out, this is good customer service.

I remember looking at Marstar when I was shopping for the Woodsman earlier.
It was and still is out of stock.

I felt the correspondence I've had with Marstar wasn't as good as the one I've had with the retailer I've ended up purchasing the firearm from. Marstar stopped replying to me after one e-mail.

Do you know how to take it apart?

Nope, I've had zero experience taking apart a firearm. However, with some patience and a tutorial video, I think I can Manage to do so myself. However, if I did this, I wouldn't be sure which component to replace. I dont know if it will be obvious once I take the firearm apart. Moreover, as soon as I discovered the problem at the range, I went straight to the store I purchased it from to see if they cant help me out.

Here is an exploded diagram for this particular firearm. Did you ask them which particular spring was broken? I don't mean to question the Gun Smith's assesment. but it's also possible that if the recoil spring is misaligned, it could disable the slide from working giving you the impression that a spring might be broken.

The gun is easy to take apart. However, if & when you try to take it apart, you will want to pay a great deal of attention to the recoil spring guide removal & assembly. It can be a nuisance. The first time I took it apart, it took me a while before I can put it back together. I hope that this info might help a bit.

In addition to my previous reply, I find this guys post on youtube helpful for M93 owners who are planning to disassemble the gun for the first time.
Good Luck.

Thank you Tadosan for the very informative posts. I've already gave the firearm back to the store, so I wont be disassembling myself anytime soon.
I just realized, do I need to take care of any RCMP transfer documents when I give it back to the store?

As far as I know, it will all depend on the outcome (response) from the store, whether they will fix (get it fixed) or offer you another similar product. If they are giving you back your own, there is no paperwork needed. However, if they are giving you a replacement, the store will have to submit the paperwork with RCMP who will issue the transfer for the replacment. Once you get that, you are good to go, assuming that you already have your ATT in order.
However, if you are getting a refund, all you need to do is give the registration paper back to the store, who will take care of the process on your behalf & you walk out of the store with your refund as per your agreement with the store.

I suspect that your best hope lies with the dealer supporting the products he sells.

As for a warranty form Norinco; good luck with that. Just don't hold your breath.

I had a couple of issues with my M93 as well. Light firing pin strikes and a broken firing pin at one point. Both times marstar fixed me up free of charge/on warranty. Best warranty around. I would even consider paying to have them fix my Norincos if the Warranty was up.

I don't believe they will be sending it back to China. :D Norinco would have an authorize service center in Canada, and I believe that is what the retailer meant by sending it back to them. I have a JW-15 that had an odd problem with the bolt coming out as it was cycled. When the bolt was pulled back, occasionally it would come out of the receiver. I contacted the retailer and had to jump through the hoops, before sending it off to some small shop in SK. I paid the shipping there, they paid for the return. It took about a month and a half, but it works properly now.

I'm wondering, did Marstar perform the repairs themselves or did they send it back to Norinco's service centre?

Good to hear about your experience and that things turned out okay in the end. It does suck to have to pay for shipping there, when it was no fault of yours.
