Well, I was planning on buying an AR early next year anyways. With all the crap going on down in the US, I figured I'd better hurry up and pick one up while there's still stock.

Just placed an order for a Daniel Defense M4 V5. Super excited to get my first AR platform up and running! :ar15:

Now to find someone that has an EOtech 552 in stock.....

Sigh. My credit card is going to hate me this month.

Welcome to the club. Haha, better call to increase your credit limit... ya got upgraded trigger, buffer, maybe ambi safety, tactical latch for your charging handle, ambi mag release, better flash suppressor/compensator... blah blah blah. :)

Heh, yeah, I know. I'm hoping that the stock stuff on a DD is good enough to last me a while until I get comfortable with the AR platform, then I'll worry about all the enhancements. :p

Congratulations! I have the exact same rifle and I love it. The only thing I changed is some polmer rail covers to give a bit of color and a good spot to hold, then I added a detachable carry handle, a MBUS front sight, and a Dead Ringer holo sight because it was a fancy new brand I'd never heard of before.

Really, there's nothing I would say you need to change on it, though I now realize I'm a sucker for A2 front sights and carry handles. That doesn't change the fact that the M4V5 is a fine flat top.

Your first major upgrade on the DD might be the trigger system. It's pretty gritty. I polished my sear and it's night and day difference from how it was originally but I caved and recently bought a Geissele SSA from Arms East. Still waiting for it to arrive to see what all the hype is. :p

Man, what IS it with me and picking guns with poor stock triggers for my first INSERT_TYPE_OF_FIREARM? :p My first handgun was an M&P9, which had a terrible stock trigger. I ended up dropping in an APEX Tactical kit in that. Now I pick an AR that needs a trigger job too. :p

Oh well. I'm a firm believer that you should literally be able to completely disassemble and rebuild any gun you own so that you understand how it works (don't get me started on what I had to do to my ISSC MK22... :p ). Fixing problems is a good reason to do that. ;)

Got confirmation from One Shot Tactical that everything was in stock and that they've already started the transfer with the CFO. I've been so excited all day that I haven't really done any actual WORK at work today.

get the Geissele trigger. Makes a huge difference. Other than that the stock DD rifle is great. What optic are you going to put on it? I think a 2moa micro would top it off nicely :)

For optics, I'm thinking an EOtech 552 (65 MOA circle & 1 MOA dot). Except I can't find one in stock anywhere right now, so I'll just stick with irons (I ordered a set of Magpul BUIS with the rifle) until I can find the EOtech somewhere. Nothing wrong with a good red dot either (I did consider the Aimpoint T1), but I've never had an EOtech on anything, and I'm thinking it's time I got one. :p

Do you need the EOTech to be NV compatible? If the EOTech 517 (I think) is all the same except no NV button(and NV power levels).
Need, or want? :p

Actually, I guess I don't really need the NV functionality. TBH, when I was using their "selector" tool, I think the reason it recommended the 552 was because I chose 33 foot waterproof. The 517 is only waterproof to 10 feet, but again that's probably something I can live with... The 512 may actually be another fine choice... the only differences I can see between the 517 and 512 is the location of the buttons and a higher "Brightness Adjustment Range".

Thanks for the tip, I think I can live with a 517 if I can find one of those in stock.

yeah, no kidding..... the EE is very addictive, but eotechs are quite good, unless you've got the older crappier N cell ones.

Congrats! I'm about to go home to my new AR-15. I just hope the Tavor hasn't gotten jealous and torn it to bits inside the gun safe.

Of course Canada Post felt the need to leave the rifle on my doorstep and I had to zip home from the office to toss the package inside. Fricken retards.

Well, a bit of an update. I ended up ordering my EOtech from IRUNGUNS. Jason has confirmed that I got one of the 3 that were left in stock, so that's progressing well. I ended up going with the XPS3-0 since I couldn't find a 552 (or a 517 or even a 512!) anywhere, and the guy on the EE didn't even bother to get back to me.

Got the rifle itself yesterday, and took her out to the range for a bit of play this afternoon. It definitely runs well, no problems with the MFS MilSpec ammo I was feeding it, and it was shooting ~1.5" groups at 25 yards with the Magpul MBUS I threw on it, standing (in snow!), unsupported, and not trying particularly hard to be super-accurate -- it was more of a "does this thing run well?" kind of test. Yes. Yes it does. :p My shooting buddy was super jealous and now wants to get an AR of his own. ;)

The factory trigger on mine isn't actually all that bad. The reset is pretty gritty, but the actual pull to fire is decently crisp. I'll probably leave it as-is for now, but I'll look at one of those Geisselle kits maybe later this year.

My only real gripe with it so far (and it's not much of one) is that the Magpul AFG2 doesn't actually fit onto the quad rail properly without modification. The side rails are slightly too low, and snags on a flared piece of the rail attachment side of the AFG2. Nothing too hard to fix -- just took about 5 minutes of careful work with a rasp to file things down so they fit nice.

And finally -- the obligatory pic of my new baby, sans-optic for now:
