Hi all,

Well I've been searching for the past two hours and haven't come across a crystal clear answer IMO, so if someone could clarify this for me I would really appreciate it. I would like to buy a shotgun to hunt turkeys and take with me coyote hunting, the issue being I would really like a TACTICAL "style" pump action that has a mag extension. Does the 3-shot restriction apply to turkeys? as far as I know they aren't migratory right? So in short I guess what I'm asking is would I be able to "HUNT" both turkys and coyotes with the increased capacity, no pinning or plugs in the tube. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

YP

You have to plug it no matter what you are hunting, not a big deal tho here is what I use for turkey hunting

Ok thanks for clearing that up. Now obviously that will hold more than 3 shells, so what did you do to "plug" or restrict the shells? Have you ever been checked by the MNR with this? any issues?

One of the coolest TAC's that I've seen, very nice.

Gun shops sell nice plastic plugs, I payed 7 bucks for mine. Lots of guys just use wooden dowel. If you use wood its a good idea to go thick as the thin dowel that comes in some shotguns from the factorys has a tendancy to foul the spring in the tube. I had that happen with an old mossburg

In Ontario it must be plugged to 3 just buy a plastic one. Besides its rare I think to myself I wish I had more shells in my gun!!

Thanks!! I actually just measure the shells and cut a wooden dowel to plug the tube with, works fine because that's what good ol' mossberg uses for plugs. I have never been checked for it but my shotgun is perfectly legal.

If I am going to hunt turkeys and coyote, I don't want the fixed cylinder or improved cylinder that most tactical type shotguns come with. I want a shotgun that has interchangeable chokes, and a barrel longer than 18" or 20".

The remington 870 express tactical has a 18.5" barrel and takes chokes and you can also get extended ported turkey chokes that add a few inches to the length, I took a turkey from 60 yards with my 18.5" barrel with one shot so you'll be fine and with the breacher choke I can hit dinner plates all day with slugs.

This looks like a good thread in which to post my query about hunting turkeys with my tactical shotgun. My tactical shotgun has a 20 inch barrel with extra full choke and extended mag, choate pistol grip stock and ghost ring sights. I understand I need to block it off as previous posters have said but would the extra full choked 20 inch barrel work for turkeys and what sized shot would be optimal.

The hunting would take place in lower British Columbia.

I would recommend getting an extra full turkey choke because they pattern a lot better than standard full chokes, and it really depends on what your shotgun likes. My 870 loves cheap federal turkey loads #5..1 5/8oz

Then you can turn this:

Thanks fish - Not sure if I can even begin to remove my extra full choke after so much time and so many shots so I'll just leave it as is and use the federal premium copper plated shot #6, 2 3/4 inch mag. I'm thinking I should be good for 25 yds or so if I hold on head and neck.

Should be good I took mine at 60 yards, one shot and dead! I think he might of actually died of shock before I even pulled the trigger when he saw my tacticool shotgun lol

Don't really matter I like them straight black over camo, mostly cause the camo finishes come off real easy. I had a mossberg turkey thug in infinity camo and a couple time creeping on the grass trying to get a bit closer and half the camo on the barrel rubbed off! Anyways here is my shotty that took the kill
