Im thinking of doing a trip during my winter reading break from University this year. I havent really been on a vacation of any sorts in years, and have never been on a successful hunt in my life yet, ever. Going hog hunting in the states really appeals to me, and I'm considering looking into going hog hunting in the southern states in Mid-Late February.
Just looking for some info on that. What state to go to? How much am I looking at, money wise? What kind of paper work and other stuff am I looking at to get all set up? ( hunting license, gun transport etc)? Anyone have any good firsthand experience in a particular state or with a certain outfitter?

Any info is appreciated!
 
i go down to my parents rental home in florida when its not booked and book some hog hunting at rons (www.ronsguideservice.com) best price on hogs and iam from toronto somtimes we do the drive or fly down out of buffalo for 200 bucks but ileave the guns at home and do a stalk with the compound bow no need for paper work since it does not have a trigger, its not a fire arm so no long waits at the boarder, but if you want the meat to bring back got to fill in some paper work about 4 to 6 weeks a head of time to bring back the meat and head if you want to mount. have fun it is a rush when you are hunting from the ground with a bow. but best money spent is there at rons
 
best bet get to know someone there that has some land and go on a cull type hunt shooting as many of the buggers as you can

a saiga 12 with buckshot or slugs would work nicely
 
Watched a show on it a few weeks back. First look at this whole business for me. When those guys started diving in and grabbing the boars back legs with their bare hands while a dog kept the pig's attention, well it seems you don't need a firearm of any description. They had a sequence of 300 lb boar going full boar ( sorry about that) through the bush clearing dead falls like a gazelle. That was a huge departure from my concept of Porky.
 
How is it getting back here with the meat?

It would be a fun trip for sure, I just wouldn't do it without being able to return with the meat...

I am heading to Oklahoma the beginning of February for a hog hunt, archery (wild boar ridge). The cost is $150 for the day, includes a non trophy boar. Price grows a bit as you start getting in to trophy size animals. There is no licence for out of state hunters with hogs, they are a nuisance animal.
Coming back with the meat is a non-issue.
Crossing the border with firearms is very simple, if you do the right paperwork, it isn't complicated or stressful. Matter of fact, the border crossing is much smoother than average when you hand them your firearm papers, they look at it like you just declared a box of Kleenex. Make the plans and go.
For our archery hunt, there is zero paperwork, and the animals will be coming home with us.

Yeah thats one issue Ive thought of. The meat is a huge deal for me too. I wouldn't go without getting meat. I think the outfitters can arrange meat transport with many weeks notice in advance. I would probably get it butchered down there, eat a bunch and then bring back whats left.
 
Is there a way to transport handguns to the states for hunting? Id love to have my revolver at my side when hunting these hogs, or even try my hand at taking one with it.
