Hello, would just like to say I'm new to ARs and firearms in general, got my RPAL in Jan, 2012. I'm putting together a custom build and it's around $3000. Tell me what you think.

Motiuk Custom Lower
Motiuk Upper Complete (parts uninstalled)
Spikes Enchanced LPK
S&J Nitride BCG, 11.5 Barrel, LP Gas Block, 12" Freefloat Rail (cut down), Carbine Gas Tube
Aimpoint Pro, Bobro Cantilever mount

That should be all of it. Only got into ARs in November and now I have a "gunsmith" work bench with all the tools. But like I tell everyone that asks, there's worse things I could spend money on.

So is this stuff you want? Or are you willing to get different parts? I've compromised a total (to my knowledge) parts kit for my own custom built AR-15, that I wouldn't mind sharing. My list is a bit more for a value gun though.

But I decided to go with a fully assembled Daniel Defence rifle, they're about $1465-$1665 for one from Wolverine Supplies (http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/products/firearms/rifles.aspx?brand=DANIEL+DEFENSE). Now with that option you don't get the some of the features/items you've got on your list, but it's an option.
 
Sorry, I already have most of this ordered. Was more looking to see what people thought of my choices in parts. I usually do things then get feedback after. Thanks though
 
Sorry, but I think that is too much for what components you are using.
I would be inclined to go for a complete rifle if you are spending that much, and not getting something completely custom in the process. The LMT mrp for a little less or KAC SR-15 E3 for a $100 more from board sponsors above are two options that took less than 5 minutes to source. The upside is you get it with a warranty and they will likely hold their value better than a parts bin build.
 
When it comes to a build like this its really personal and up to you how you want to do it however the only thing that I would recommend to definatly change is go for a mil spec buffer tube rather than commercial. If your going to spend the money on custom engraved lower you might as well spring the extra 10 bucks for the more reliable milspec buffer tube.

Also just a suggestion you can get a F/A BCG from NEA if there are issues with trying to get american parts. With that said though I recommend continually checking out EE sometimes there are interesting parts that come up there that are out of stock with suppliers.
 
I thought a lot about the factory option, but I chose to build my own as then I get a little more sentimental value from the rifle since I put it together. Plus assembling a rifle seems like a good way to learn how everything works. The only reason it seems high priced is all the shipping and taxes is included, and I bought from a half dozen companies so I paid for a lot of shipping. As for warranty I never use it, except once on my new truck when I blew the transmission

I though about the DD LPK but its just milspec, the Spikes it's Nickel Boron parts and an ergo grip (swapped with the Miad off my NEA 10.5) as for the BCM I might get one and replace the LMT (putting the LMT on my NEA)

Oh, ok, sorry. Personally I've heard some bad things NEA, and I'd prefer to have either a full quad rail or a modular-type rail, but that's just me. For the sling plate, I like the Magpul ASAP. The CTR is good to my knowledge, but I have grown to like the battery tubes on the SOPMOD stock, so I'd go with a Magpul ACS stock.The TLR-3 is an... interesting choice for a weapon light. Having the ability to have a custom (to a degree) engraved lower is AWESOME to me. Everything else, I don't have enough experience to comment on it. But it's your rifle, not mine.
 
Already had the Commercial CTR so I cheaped out a little, but will probably upgrade down the road, the American parts have me worried but I'm in no rush... For now lol

Batteries in the Miad (CR2s, very small), rail works well with my current setup and I have an NEA 10.5 and it hasn't failed yet, definitely looking at a lighter option though. Only reason I didn't do ASAP was for my sling placement, hard to explain. As for TLR3 it's for my Jericho 941 9mm as well, probably upgrade the light after taxes come back lol

I should've asked, but the serial number has to be printed before they can transfer I thought, I don't know when the serial number is placed on the receiver either. But it only takes a day in Sask for a transfer if you already have a restricted, bonus of low population lol

Parts List looks full of quality components save for the Comm Buffer Tube. You should end up w/a reliable piece of kit once all is done. That's the beauty of building one yourself, done the way you want from the get-go with your vision in mind.
 
Is the comm buffer tube really that bad, I didn't put much research into it. And thanks, I hope it shoots as well as it'll look lol especially for the price

It will get you up and running, you'll want to swap it out eventually. The Mil-Spec versions offer some tighter tolerances and lock up a little more solidly.
 
Did a quick bit of research, and thanks to you (and my credit card lol) Wolverine just made $148. CTR and buffer tube milspec
