Transfer times in Ontario - Well Beyond A Reasonable Timeframe

I am in Ontario and over the course of purchasing a half dozen pistols through private sales the average transfer times I've experienced has been around 2 weeks. Now, while I don't consider myself an impatient person my latest transfer has made me realize just how ridiculous the timeframe is becoming... I called the CFO today after 3 weeks and was told that the average time right now is 6 weeks... that they were processing transfers 4 weeks earlier then mine and so I should prepare myself for an another 3 week wait. That is absolutely ludicrous. Who, in their right mind, considers 6 weeks a reasonable period of time to wait for something that they have purchased regardless of what it is?? Can they not hire the necessary personnel to bring the transfer times down to a "normal" period of time... say 1 week?

Very frustrating and beyond my comprehension.
 
They want to totally discourage people from transferring guns i think. I have sent my email complaints to the ombudsman, i was going to call today but my transfer was complete. They need to get their act together!!
 
Don't forget a trade-in with a dealer and sold to another license holder. Turn-around is a day to a week. Just like a new firearm. But for a private transfer, good luck! They must be deliberately delaying transfers for them to look busy. Remember,we do not register NR firearms anymore. And yet, they must have kept same number of people doing registrations. Again, this points to unjustified delay. Just bureaucracy and never ending frustrations to us
 
Yep, started a transfer last week and was told 6 weeks is the new normal. Last restricted transfer about 2 months ago took only 3 days, so something has dramatically changed - or maybe it's all the aR15 panic buying that has them backed up?

It's not like they have less work to do now that the LGR is gone or anything... :rolleyes:
 
I had a transfer started last Thursday (I'm the buyer) of a used restricted from a licensed dealer. I called this afternoon(Monday) and its been approved:)
 
I'm over six weeks on a transfer... I called the other day, no answer, left a message. Got a call back later that day stating my transfers were still pending, no issues just "the backlog". "Try calling back next week"
In the time it took them to look that up and call me back, could they not just put it through?? I've had them put transfers through while I've been in the phone before....
What is the process that takes so long?? It's ridiculous that the CFO even needs to approve the transfer, the CFC should be sufficient...
 
I think what it is there tons of people buying,selling and trading and it putting pressure on the system and they know whats going on i'm sure. There doing approx. 1000-1500 transfers a day going through the system. I did a deal today traded gun for a gun by time i was email my reference number for the one gun and called the CFR and started my transfer for the other guy probly no more then 10 minutes if that there was already 35 transfers done and Ontario has way more people then any other province and they are buzy and are on a slow down.BC now takes a min. of 2 to 3 weeks and AB was picking up the slack cause of it. Were lucky some places in the US is only allowed to purchase one gun every 3 months now that sucks...
 
I've seen a few decent deals on the EE recently that I've passed on for this very reason....who wants to wait up to 2 months to complete a private deal? I purchased from a dealer a couple weeks back and within 2 days I was good to go. Dealer transfers seem to take priority. That being said, there are a lot of restricted's being bought and sold over the past few months...I don't know if this is due to "prepping" or just a coincidence. I myself, purchased 3 this winter,which is unheard of for me....I know others have purchased many more.
 
4 to 6 weeks for private restricted transfers. 2 to 3 days for retailer transfers. That's what my situation has been the last month or so...

Did a private transfer with a gentleman in Winnipeg last week...after I gave him the reference number, he called in, and they approved the transfer for him right over the phone!!! Couldn't belive it when he told me...
 
Just so everyone realizes it, the CFC service standard for transfers is 30 days. As in, if the transfer is completed in less than 30 days they have met their performance target and are happy.

About 3/4 the way down the page. In Q2 2012 there were 65,199 transfers handled and 95.5% were completed within 30 days. That means 2934 of those took longer than 30 days to complete. Our tax dollars, hard at work!

I have one waiting since last year (Dec 11). I will beat them at their own game,.....I figure another 25-30 yrs on this earth & have a few to shoot & reload for in the mean time.....

I just hope the seller hangs around long enough to ship it,....once they decide to get off their butts & give it their blessings of course! LOL.
 
BC has gone real bad as well. Before the long registry was dumped we were 1 to 3 days. Now I have three waiting and they are all over a month now. Me thinks something smells a little Fishey here.

took over 6 weeks for mine, started dec 12, completed jan 28

the cfo is too busy making up new ATT rules and going to court to have time to process transfers

in november, the transfer time was under a week
