Freakin impressive looking huh?
Got to fire a real one just once, courtesy of a US Army training team at CFB Petawawa in the late 1980s.
Didn't really have a chance to wring it out at distance because our Fig 11 target was set at 300 meters.
"Felt" more like a battle rifle with optics than a true sniper rifle.
My impression only........

Cheers!

Trivia: I do believe one US Ambassador to Cyprus was fatally shot with one of these in the 1970s.

Technically it is and was intended to be a designated marksman rifle, so pretty much an accurized battle rifle with optics and not a sniper. So your right to think that.

well its just sitting in my safe doing nothing ...real shame

Yeah, I hear you and can feel your pain but if you think of it this way may be you will feel better because at least you are one the few that can legally own one and for the rest of us we can't even touch one. :(

Dragunov made Olympic shooting rifles, fun fact for the day. Beautiful rifle, good thing it is locked up or it would be converting us all to communists with it's looks and charm.

Why are these illegal or unable to be shot? I'm lost.

Because of our retarted gun laws, the Dragunov is a 12.5 Prohibited (by name only) gun that can be owned by grandfathered individuals with 12.5 licenses, but can not be taken to the range or otherwise used at all.

I have handled that rifle. It makes me want to shoot it a lot.

ok, but why can it not be taken to the range? I was under the impression pretty much all prohibs except full auto are aloud.

I can't get it either. Why SVD is prohibited - it's long, not especially accurate, semi-auto. Got a 10 rounds magazine, but it can be pinned. Some bureaucrat didn't like the name and that's it - none of us can have it.
