Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hey guys, here's an update on mine:
Application arrived - Dec 21
Appeared online - Jan 17
Called in for my interview - Jan 22
References called in - Jan 23 & 24
Shows issued online - Jan 28

I can't believe it made it through the CFO so quick living in Ontario, 2 short weeks and I can go get my SKS :)

Was this for PAL or RPAL??

SKS is non restricted but my licence is a RPAL

I'm sending my (r)pal tomorrow, after I get my passport photo done.
I hope someone can answer a couple questions before I send it.

Should I attach the original documents, or are copies ok? (I have already photocopied them in duplicate)
I recently went through a bankruptcy. Should I attach a seperate page with date/details?
Should I label or number each page, or each additional page (including proof of crfsc/cfsc)?

I know I'm being overly cautious, and probably a little OCD, but in my mind in cases where
you are sending forms like this its BEST to be careful.

Geoff

if you are getting your photo done somewhere let them know its for your license cause the photo dimensions are not the same as a passport photo.
i know this cause i mentioned it and they had to retake the photo.

You need to send the originals, also put your name and address etc on the top of any extra pages you have to attach to the application, don't forget to have your guarantor sign the back of the picture on the little tab that you stick on there, it is provided when you print the application how to

Mailed RPAL application (first timer) last week, package was signed for today (Jan 28, 2013). Nothing online, fingers crossed that I'm one of the lucky 28 day'ers.

Have an empty gun safe sitting here...

Great tips. I appreciate the help.
These sorts of threads are invaluable. I would have taken a passport photo
thinking it was enough, now I'll make sure they follow the guideline when its taken.

I used a standard passport photo and trimmed it as per the specifications regarding height/width and visible shoulders etc...

Still nothing to report on my end, again they recieved my application with stamped CFSC report attached on the 2nd or 4th of december, it didn't show up online until early january, shortly before they conducted the interviews, i called them yesterday, and they said it's with the CFO now, and to call if still nothing by friday...

I'm thinking you'll see it as issued by the end of today, or tomorow

Got my card in the mail today. Door to door was from 3-Nov-12 to 29-Jan-13. That's mailing a completed application out to receiving my card in the mail. 87 Days. Finally the wait is done!

New to forum and thought I would share my timelines.

Passed RPAL/PAL - Dec 23
Mailed Test - Dec 24
Received Mirimachi - Dec 31
Showed up online - Jan 14 with status of Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.
28 Days finished on Jan 27
Called in on Jan 28 to enquire about doing interviews and was told application has not been scanned in call later. (Hopefully they will scan it in sooner than later but the good thing is in the time it takes for them to process my whole application I should have some money saved up to spend)
Will call again on Thursday to enquire about interviews and status.

I am located in BC.

sweet congrats!

In theory, as soon as the website says "your licence has been issued and mailed etc etc" I can go to the store and buy my gun right? Just call my local CFO and get my PAL # before going to the store/placing an order online?

Interviews are done and tomorrow is day 45 so I really hope that status changes

online as long as you have your PAL # and expiry date and stuff, you can purchase firearms, but i'm not sure about the stores, they may require physical ID...

As Cranswick says stores usually want to see the actual card, online you just need your number.

Good luck trying to get your number over the phone, it really depends who you get. I was told that if it's your first PAL/RPAL their policy is not to give the number over the phone that you have to wait for your card.
With that said if you're getting an RPAL you need to apply for a long term ATT anyway, so call the BC CFO extension and ask to do that over the phone and have them email it to you, you will need to scan and email or fax your range membership to them. When they email it to you your PAL number will be on the ATT :)
Most stores will allow you to purchase a gun and then hold it for you pending the arrival of your PAL.

Congratulations!
