What do you think about my brass? I bought a box of 100 today. Is it normal?

It looks like it could possibly be a little rough on the overall finish, but likely not worth worrying about. Otherwise if you're unsure of the colour difference its just because of annealing. A run through a tumbler should clean it up nicely

that's how mine look too, after a few firings and a couple tumbles they look normal, the annealing will help prevent cracked necks

enjoy them, they shoot nice

All new brass is neck annealed. Often it is tumbled to polish the colours off. No reason to do this.

Yes, it is a very bad batch of brass and very dangerous to use. I will do you a favour and dispose of them safely for you, so please just mail them to me and I will deal with it.... :)

Usually people (me included) keep them with the "heat ring", but yeah, you can tumble them. But you'll lose the "cool" factor. ;)

European brass from various makers is often left with the heat ring showing.
Yank brass is always shined up afterwards.

I like that "cool factor" anneal colour so much, the cases get "re-annealed" every five firings.
Keeps the bullet pull/neck tension even, from round to round.

= consistent accuracy, ... and those pesky, unexplained, 'flyers'? .... gone.

You can feel the freshly annealed evenness through the press handle when bullets are seated.

Lapua brass is so worth using if precision and longevity is the goal.

This struck me when I first started using Lapua brass. The consistency was stunning. Even seating the primers.

A pleasure to work with.

Don't mean to highjack the thread but who has the best prices on Lapua products, I'm looking for some 260 Rem and some 139 scenars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have obtained Lapua from both Hirsch Precision (in Halifax) and Prophet River (in Lloydminster).

Yeah, that brass is perfectly normal. I wondered the same when I got some recently, and was assured that it was a result of the annealing process. I have since mesured and weighed a good number of cases, and found them to be unbelievably uniform!! Almost every case was the exact same length,(2.487 in) and very close to the same weight! Certainly the best brass I have ever bought... for sure. I got mine from an old friend who used to run a gun shop. He let me have 2 boxes of 100 pieces per box for....wait for it.....$40 a box!!!!! Yeah I know, I'm a lucky git! lol. The price on both boxes reads $119-99. Talk about pleased!!!

If I paid the big money for brass cases and they looked like that, I'd be screaming to high heaven.
I have a feeling that if that scratched up case was head stamped Winchester, Remington or Federal, a whole bunch of respondants would be screaming about the poor quality of it. Instead, it is Lapua, so after some shootings and tumbling, it will look just fine.
I guess that's what it means to be a dyed in the wool Lapua fan.
