Sylvester Road

So that area, the big one, unavailable for plinking now ?

Just my license and getting sr22 in few days was hoping to go up and shoot it for the first time up there. Havent heard of anywhere else near vancouver crown land for shooting.

I haven't been there for 2 weeks, there was 2" of snow on the pavement and 12" at 1600 feet.
It shouldn't be a problem getting to the 4km mark, anything past that will likely be covered in snow.
I'll let you know tomorrow. :)

I went up on Boxing Day. No snow at the pavement, but ~8" at the fork a few km before Iraq. I turned around there so can't comment beyond that.

I was up there sunday...6 days ago. It was 3ft deep in the pit. I had a bit of a tough time getting there as the snow is moist and heavy.

Id be very interested in joining a cleanup of sylvestor, my budycand i shoot there once in a while and everytime we do we load the bed of my truck with spent shells from up the, its pretty bad. Next time someones planning a cleanup please send me a pm and my budy and i would be happy to help.

Was up there with my 4x4 club and people were not impressed with the mess, no one was shooting that day though.

Well i don't like the tire tracks in the marsh and wet land areas thats off the road because some 4x4 guy decided he wanted to spin some tires in the mud.. So you can complain about them as well which is why allot of areas have gates to keep people out.

Was up at sylvester on sunday with a group 6 showed up around 730 8am was perfect finished shooting and cleaning up our mess by 12 oclock when all the other people started showing up.

Went up there today for the first time. Garbage everywhere!! Let me know if you guys setup a day to clean the area I'd be happy to lend a hand.

No license as long as what your shooting doesn't have a heart beat (before you shoot it :p).
As far as I clean up I'm so down wait till it really thaws out up there, get some guys a couple a BBQ's might even be fun.

There is a fellow on hunting bc who organizes a clean up on Sylvester once a year with volunteers from the site.
Sylvester Rd will be a public relations nightmare for the shooting community of the Metro (Vancouver) area one of these days:bangHead:. There is even video on youtube from the area that they can use for the news story. "Locals Fear Being Hit By Stray Bullets." Add a local holding some deformed bullets picked up from the nearest stump and we get a closure just like the range in North Vancouver. It travels up the Fraser Valley: Vancouver, Burnaby, Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam have been already had closures and or restrictions to make the community "safe". Mission will be next. They will control it with bylaws or gates.

Well I've never been to Sylvester road, but I am a licenced shooter :) If there's a cleanup day let me know and I'll join in. Hopefully a week or so notice so I can re-arrange my life! LOL
Oh yea, and directions! I will be coming from Coquitlam. I know where Mission is but that's about it.

What will we need? a rake and lots of contractor hefty bags?
