I just placed an order for a new Sage EBR stock and I am looking for some input. Norinco M14 with normal length barrel or shorty? What are the advantages of each? Also is this a drop in stock? I have read I may need a longer pin for something. Any input would be appreciated.

Yes you will. Connector Lock and Connector Lock Pin.
The OEM Norinco connector lock is shorter than the USGI version (which the Sage will require) My JAE also required this.

You will hear people talk about the popsicle fix or epoxy, but simply swapping the OEM connector for the longer USGI connector is the proper way to do it and is very easy.
Dremel the connector lock pin off and remove the connector. Take the USGI connector (which will be slightly thicker) , place it in a drill chuck and file down until it fits in the hole. Should take no more than 10 minutes.

Keep the Norc pin if you ever want to switch back to the OEM stock.

Tactical is absolutely correct. I did not know this and was quite shocked when the connector lock backed out and sent the recoil spring guide rod flying out. This jammed everything up solid. I am trying to source the correct part but in the meantime, I hot glue gunned a piece of black plastic ( fitted to correct dimension ) to the inside of the stock and it works perfect. Just kind of bubba in my view and I have no idea how long it will last. At least use rubbing alcohol or something to remove any oil before you use the hot glue or whatever. Other than that, I am super pleased with the quality and performance. I might also look for something to glue over the cheek piece as it can tend to slap your cheek. Maybe it was just due to the very cold day when I tried it out. Read the instructions very carefully when installing. Feel free to PM me with any Questions. Don't pay more than 998.00.

Are you guys talking about the cross pin that holds the ORSG in the front of the receiver? If so, a possible best solution might be drill / tap the one side of that hole to accept a dog point screw (if you have access to the right tools or smith). That should end any backing out issues, no?

Hmmm. Never really thought of that 'til now. I may just do that if the need arises!

Are the Connector Lock and Connector Lock Pin items you can order from Brownells? If not, where can one get them? Thank you.

where can one get them?

Been out of the game for a while, but Wolverine Supplies (site sponsor) includes a set with the JAE stock for us Norc owners.
If they supply them, maybe they'll have extras or at least know where to get them.
Worth a try.

No, like our M14.ca Blackfeather "RS," you will need to install a new oprod guide (much like they did for National Match rifles) but the similarities end there. The Blackfeather ships with a installation tool to help the process, but it is not a drop in stock. Take a look at page 3 of our installation instructions for an idea of how we do it and yes, certainly, it is within the ability of any M14 rifleman with ordinary tools to install either product. No prior experience required. Good luck on your project.

I think I've found them here and here at Brownells...

I've had no luck sourcing them in-country, if someone has please let us know!

It works out to about $4 for the set, so I ordered a dozen - unless I butcher 8 of them I should have some spares when I'm done. :)

Thank you for posting the links, I will have to order some and get my EBR project on the go :)

brownells sells the standard connector lock pin, which is "GI" length , that's the one you need
they also sell and "NM" length connector lock pin, this is the same length as chinese pin.

Sage stocks are quite easy to install at home.
you will need the following tools
allen keys
castlenut pliers
pin punches

parts needed
usgi length connector pin
1/8x3/4 roll pin for oprod guide

first remove castlenut keeper with allen key
undo castlenut and remove flash hider assembly
undo and remove entire gas assembly , set the gas band plate aside as it will not be needed
using a 1/8 punch , drive out oprod guide pin and remove oprod guide from barrel, set aside as these parts will not be needed

with your sage kit, you will find an oprod guide with holes on the sides that mate to the stock walls. These holes are off center slightly so the oprod guide must go on the barrel the right way so the holes in the guide align with the mounting holes in the stock walls
install oprod guide roll pin 1/8x3/4, loctite optional

in your sage kit will be a small washer that replaces the gas band plate from the gas assembly.
install the washer, then the cylinder to the barrel, ensure oprod guide and gas cylinder are aligned together by inserting oprod to the action and piston in the cylinder. the piston and oprod should be in relatively center to center alignment.
once verified, remove piston and oprod
now, with gas lock installed, check gas port alignment by inserting a 1/16 drill rod or similar "tool" into the small hole on bottom of gas cylinder up into the barrel
the drill rod should pass into the barrel, if it doesn't, the washer may need to be either shimmed or have material stoned off to make it thinner. in my experience, these modifications have not been very necessary to the washer as most are pretty bang on.

at this point you are ready to install action to chassis.
when i do this step, i drop action straight in
install oprod guide mounting screws but i do not tighten them
insert and lock in trigger group
fully tighten oprod guide mounting bolts..... i do not use any lock tite except for the oprod guide roll pin and even then..... not necessary on the sage.

check in stock safety checks and go have some fun ;)

sage stocks are very simple to install and rarely present problems when fitted to chinese actions.

Never miss a chance to plug your product eh?

Sage arrived from Del Selins last week, great people to deal with. Now my Blackfeather isn't lonely in the safe.

What's that EBR?

You want a stripper clip picatinny rail and a selector cut out cover?
You want to get your barrel threaded and have a Vortex flash eliminator installed?
You want some optics?

Don't worry - I'll get them for you sweetie.

I'm secretly hoping these two make babies in the safe when I'm not paying attention.

Lol that's great! Nice looking family you got there. Love the EBR! Can't wait until mine arrives.
