I started the transfer of a restricted hand gun on Jan 15th the C.F.O said it would be up to 10 days it has now been 3 weeks i called today and they now are saying in Ontario it could be 4 to 6 weeks can any one tell me why.

Maybe one of people from the CFO's office that people say that lurk on here can enlighten us ?

If you were a subscriber to the Canadian Firearms Digest (and why aren't you?), you'd see some good commentary on the topic.

CSSA is taking the CPFO to court over the issue of ATT restrictions and raising the question as to the need for CPFOs at all!

If you're one of the "I don't like CSSA or the NFA" types, get over it! No one else is fighting the fight where it needs to be fought. A bunch of god ol' boys pissing and moaning about it isn't accomplishing anything.

You can file a complaint here, either email or phone, they called me back to day to follow up on a complaint i made last month about a transfer

I haven't requested a private transfer for sometime now but my last 2 restricteds from Dealers took 2 business days to go through respectively....and yes I'm in Ontario.
I'll pay the extra few bucks to buy from a Dealer (and get my restricted faster) unless I see a screaming private deal.

There are a few simple steps you can take to 'speed up' your processing time...

- When communicating with the CFO, do so in writing (or at least by email)
- Always insist for a written answers to any of your questions... (as in, why is it taking so long...)
- If you feel the process is taking too long, contact your provincial ombudsman office... While these folks might be firearm-owner-friendly... they really don't like civil servants that are not doing their jobs as expected...

Just saying.

You need to visit governement offices, either municipal, provincial or federal and see for yourself the speed at which they work......enough said.

I started my private deal transfer, Jan 2nd. Since then, I started and finished a dealer transfer, and have yet to hear about the private one.
Isn't it obvious, folks. The CFO doesn't want us recycling our restricteds.
They want us to bring new guns onto the Canadian shooting seen.
Any wonder there are so many "Safe Queens"?
CFO just doesn't want us to get rid of them, just wants us to addd to our collection.
Then, when we's can afford to buy no more, "Kabam", they'll hit us with a $100 a gun, per year registration renewal fee.
And that's when I'll finally have to say: "I'm Out"

I see 2 possible answers, either one could be correct - feel free to pick the one you see as the most accurate:

1) The office is understaffed and has a large number of long term staff who have accumulated long vacation entitlements, they work as fast as they possibly can within the mandate for public safety, but there are times when a delay is unavoidable.

2) They're a bunch of anti-gun bureaucrats, who are not only riding the gravy train for all it's worth, they're doing it so damned slowly that if it gets any worse they'll actually be moving backwards. The only way some of these illigitimate offspring will see an application to transfer is if it gets glued to the water cooler.
