I know it can be called Onterrible because of Chris Wyatt but..... Does anyone know of any ranges in Ontario that are probation free on center fire handguns?

I would pay my dues and get ATT through them. Then just go as a guest to my local range till I get sponsered by 2 members, take their course and pass the qualifing shoots (take 6-12 months).

Thanks for any input,

Is it possible?

This is not cool......ONE FULL YEAR.

1.Applicants must be a member for at least one full year before applying for an ATT
2.Applicants must have attended at least 3 club meetings and 3 club events (special events, meetings, work parties) in the previous 12 months before being considered for an ATT.
3.Applicants must have completed the club level handgun safety course before being considered for an ATT.

I just googled the conditions, and it came up with Barrie.

There's nothing stopping you from applying for short term ATTs or a long term ATT through the CFO yourself.

I hate to see clubs impose further restrictions on shooters than they already have to deal with from the CFO and some LEO as it is.

How on earth are you going to get new people into shooting when the clubs start imposing conditions like this? The executive must be a bunch of old ladies.

EOHC, Grenvill Fish and Game, Stittsville Shooting Club, Smith's Falls Shooting Club, etc., etc...

Most Ontario clubs have no probationary period provided you do the safety course and pay your dues.

I was refused a short term ATT to go to Target for a day.

That's totally crazy. My daughter lives in Barrie and just finished her RPal course. I think she was going to apply at that club but I'll bet she is unaware of those rules.

How do they expect to get new blood into a club with that attitude???

If you or her find a place more reasonable, please let me know and I will do the same.

Most clubs in this neck of the woods require 10 shoots with members in good standing... but A YEAR? thats insane. That's worse then the local bullseye club that requires a three week safety course!

Right now I'm waiting on a cssa class ... That no one wants to run in the winter before I can even apply for an ATT with the club, and I'm willing to bet I belong to one of the most costly clubs in the country..

I understand there has to be rules boys but I'm a member in good standing.. I'm allowd to shoot rifles and shotguns, never had a complaint in my 8 months at the club but can't get a ltatt

I would suggest that you check with the Barrie club. You will find that the requirements to become a member are much more reasonable than suggested.
At one time there was a shortage of qualified instructors for safety courses and probationary sign offs but that has changed.
It is a very good club, well run, clean & lots to do,.

Nope. The Ontario CFO will not issue a STATT to attend a range in that case. I tried before I was a member of my current club and was refused. They also won't process LTATT applications sent directly to them from individuals, only clubs.

Boycott this club, obviously. Any club that makes it more difficult than it already is, clearly isn't a friend of the shooting sports. My only question is how this club passed this rule. There should have been a few level headed members that would raise a protest.

I am uncertain how to describe the op's probation period at the club he is looking into, seems extreme to say the least.

But probation periods are definitely a necessity and I fear often too short.

My club has very stringent rules and regulations, for good reason, SAFETY!

You are placed on probation and have to do at LEAST Three probationary shoots on the indoor range and Three on the outdoor range and another three for rifles outdoors.

That is the minimum many people have to do more than three before being signed off.

Then there is also holster courses, range officer courses etc...

The probationary "officer" signs off on every outing. Though I believe this is a very effective an thorough method, I still see people at the range doing things they were specifically told not to. How they fail to remember and respect the rules is beyond me and puts themselves and others at risk.

I always try my best to politely correct them and remind them of the rules. This isn't fun, but neither is getting shot.

Sorry that this rant is a little off course.

I would suggest trying another club, and when you are doing your probationary period to pay attention and remember rules and procedures, being polite and friendly will get you along way with the older members, and get you fast tracked perhaps.
