10/22 auto bolt release

Seeing as how the bolt doesn't hold open on last round. That makes this mod useful only if you manually locked the bolt open. Question I have is why anyone would want to lock the bolt back as a regular action.

What difference does it make to you if someone chooses this option?
Does it change your life much?

Range rule's, cleaning are a couple off hand.

What's the rush to release the bolt if you're at the range? Cleaning is better accomplished if you remove the bolt. Regardless the standard hold open works just fine.

I have a hard time fathoming why so many focus on non performance enhancing mods as opposed to shooting and mastering the fundamentals. I also see very litte logic in shooting a non restricted at the range. Static targets from a static position at a known distance from the bench or prone gets old fast.

Yeah I should probably just shoot my non-restricted in my back yard in the city instead.

Thanks, that is a great site for 10/22 information.http://gulfcoastmasons.com/OTHERSITES/RUGER22/RUG2.htm My bolt release was a major pain to release. For me it was a good mod. TDC seems to forget not everyone has the opportunity to shoot on the wide open range of Alberta or somewhere similar. Why shoot at the range ? Just this last week there was a article in the local paper where some local morons were shooting up on one of the local hills and left a pile of household garbage and what looked like 3-4 Hundred 12 gage hulls scattered over the ground. That's a good way to win support from non shooters.
Go here and you can see a pic of how much can be removed without ruining it.
There are a very few who like the release the way it is, I'm not one of them, I think it's a big improvement.

So a handful of morons means the rest of us should hide at the range? Some strange logic there. As for wide open Alberta. There's plenty of wide open area in all of canada. That's a lame excuse.

It just needs to be slightly concave where the bump was before. Also you can have issues if you're mag release is too tight. This can be fixed by sanding the sides of it. The bolt release should just fall down when you pull back the charging handle. Test with and without a magazine installed. You can remove quite a bit of material before its ruined.

Just seen all the bickering going on thought I'd jump in I think that mod is very useful my buddies release was murder when he got, I'm going to fill him in on the mod. Also what's the point of having a gun if u don't take it down and try stuff to make it better its fun and that how u learn. I also agree with TDC with live in Canada if u can't find open places to shoot u better get out of your basement. There is nothing more fun than setting up your own targets and unloading as long as it is done safe and u clean up after. Anyways spilt my bean thanks y'all for the info

Not the rush, some guy's just can't do it, plain and simple.
Some people don't clean their 22's every time they take them out

I did the mod because the 10/22 release was not always the easiest thing to use. Now, after wasting all my time and energy I can operate the gun with winter gloves on, that was important to me.
In the process of wasting time and energy I also got a great insight in to the trigger assembly of that wonderful gun!

If you can't operate the hold open, then spend some time and practice. In the same amount of time you spend doing this mod you should be able to figure out the stock setup.

Oh I know how to do so, but many older gent's can't move their hand's so well so I've offered this service free.
Not to mention a quick cleaning of the gut's of the trigger mech.

Who cares what people do to their guns if its not hurting anyone? I've also 'wasted time' with this mod and you know what, I prefer it to the way it worked before. So someone else doesn't think its worth doing, so what! Don't bash someone for customizing their stuff. I see those spinner rims on cars. I think there the stupidest thing ever, it doesn't make it go faster but you know what? It make the owner happy!
