Hi guys,

I am really drooling for a HK USP Custom Sport in 9mm. This gun would be my main one for IPSC (Production). Some of you guys have one?

http://www.hkpro.com/uspcustomsport.htm

Is it really worth the 200$ more for the match trigger, barrel and adjustable sights? Or you would say the basic USP is precise enough and has a good trigger?

Please do not recommend other brand. My choice is now between the USP and the Custom sports.

Anyone here experienced both?

The only difference is the match trigger & adjustable sights. The barrels are the same. I know the HKPRO site mentions a match barrel - it's the same barrel.
Is it worth $200 dollars more? The price of a match trigger is about $115US. I think the sights are about $100US. The match trigger is smooth. I like adjustable sights.
I use a CS as does Maurice, and I know of two Quebec shooters but I don't think they are members of CGN.

Do you guys who have fixed sights regrets the move? I really wonder if the USP need adjustable one. I heard they are already deadly accurate with the fixed sights.

I use regular USP. Dont have a match trigger. Have regular sites. I like it, I shoot matches alot with it.

Match trigger and adjustable sights are nice, but not mandatory. My scores jumped significantly when I went from fixed to target sights - may not have been just the sights but it seemed to make a big difference.

Get a regular USP V1.
Buy a match trigger kit. Install it
Buy PSI fibre optic adjustable sight set, or an Ameriglo tactical front sight, and rear Mepro adjustables.

I have a stainless usp, with the match trigger, and now it has fibre optic sights..
It is a VERY reliable pistol for production. It is also very accurate.

the barrels are the same.
You may also want to change it it a V3, (no external safety), as you may find you accidentally place the safety on during matches.
I have been using a USP since i got my Black badge in MAY, 2004.
It allows you to concentrate on shooting, and not have to worry about the gun.

I can not stress how much you should get either a fibre optic front sight, or a Tritium front sight. The front sight is extremely important in IPSC. An adjustable set will allow you to make adjustments for different types of ammo and distances.

I have a USP Custom Sport 9mm that I use for IPSC Production and like it alot. I have not used standard UPS, but prefer the look of the Custom Sport better.

Thanks Maurice for the Answer....

Can you clarify two things for me ...

1. I didn't know that the USP had version (v1 and v3 like you are mentioning) ... but where is the safety on the v3 if it's not outside?

2. Are the USP and the USP Custom Sports are the exact same gun? (Except the match trigger and adj. sights). Because DragonBlade says that he prefer the looks of the Custom. He kind of lost me there...

The USP is available in like...16 different versions, and all USP's have an internal firing pin block safety:ie the trigger has to be pressed to lift the firing pin block (which is in the slide), in order to allow the firing pin to proceed forward to strike the primer. Since Production division you normally start hammer down (ie DA first shot, where as you decock after chambering a round), the external safety is, "IMHO", not needed. It is only a minute and $12. dollars to switch it from a V1 = lever goes up for safety, and flicks down to decock, to a V3 = lever will not go up, but goes down to decock.

Yes they are
. The Custom sport is a USP with adjustable sight and match trigger kit= "Sport Tuning Kit", as listed on the HK Germany website.

Taller front sight is better for bringing it on to target.

Sound good Maurice ...this is very clear now.

I'll sleep better tonight ;)

So I may buy a basic USP, and buy an adjustable sight of my choice later.

Is a gunsmith is necessary to remove the fixed sights and install and adjustable one? I would say that the fixed sight is held by a screw but I am not sure.

I shot the USP, but I don't remember how the sight where fixed to the slide.

I loved the basic trigger on the USP ...but I never tried the match trigger. How is it different, on the weight and crisp?

DA is smoother and a little less weight due to a few things;
the hammer spring is softer, and the trigger return spring is thinner/ less weight.
The hammer has slightly more work into it, and the trigger has a trigger stop screw on it.
The single action is a lot better as well.
A gunsmith is not necessary if you want adjustable sights. they old ones tap out, and the new ones tap in; just be carefull as you don't want to damage the finish. I use a cloth covered punch set and a small hammer on a piece of wood on my bench. It is not held in by a screw

Thanks Maurice for all the input. Everything is much cleared now.

I use a SS USP 9mm and added the Match Trigger.

I found the trigger better but I'm still not sure if it was worth the $100 or not.

Did you install the Mach Trigger yourself? From what I've heard, it is not a drop-in kit and it needs to be installed by a professional if you want to have the kind of trigger pull you'd get with a Custom Sport/Tactical/Expert/Elite.

Where do you go to get Ameriglo products in Canada?

from my mailbox :p
I just called him (Ameriglo) to place my order, and specified that I did not want UPS to attempt to deliver anything. USPS is the way to go. Explain it is coming to Canada.

I am using a PSI Fibre Optic sight set on my current pistol, and I will be re-installing my Ameriglo sights on my backup pistol.

1. The change is internal not allowing the safety to raise up.

2. Exactly. Same gun except for trigger and sights.

Im a fellow USP CS owner I traded out my adjustable sights, for Meprolight adjusble night sites, I had a problem finding a holster to fit the taller front blade of the USP CS, even with the Meps I still have a tough time, what holsters is everyone using?

BTW I love the way my USP shoots, I even got over the extra long (IMO) trigger reset.
