Confusing search engine on Epps' website

Not for me. I must admit I'm not the most computer litterate(part of the problem). But I'm not alone, for sure.

Fair enough. I use it nearly every day, which might explain why I am so comfortable with the website. The other posters aren't wrong in their thinking, the items aren't entered consistently so sometimes the search results can be wonky.

Hey, no fair. I see you're from Orillia. You could just walk in every day!:)

It's an 8 hr. round trip, for me, although well worth it. :D

I usually drop $500 plus, two or three times a year, for reloading supplies.

Maybe it's just as well I have difficulty with the used gun section.;)

Hah! Yeah, there are a few advantages of living in Orillia.

That's a heck of a drive! And it might just as well be a good thing. ;)

To search for kel tec, you have to type "kel-tec" (no quotes) if you don't add the dash you get every result that includes tec in the title or description

And I agree, the new filters are not perfect, plus they don't list all brands anymore like they used to, I have no idea what brands are in stock except the limited selection of brands shown on the side

I too finally got frustrated by trying to use it and just gave up and left.I hope they do something about it to make it user friendly.

Epp's is a great store. I've bought multiple guns online from them. That being said I'm not a fan of the new search engine. I used to ##### about not having pictures of used guns for sale but in retrospect it wasn't that bad compared to the new site.

Epps new site is an absolute failure.

I used to visit their old site almost daily and subsequently have purchased great deal of guns from them in last few years.
It was not very modern or 'cool' looking.
You could of called it even somewhat 'clunky', but it was easy to navigate and finding anything you were looking for was a cinch.

Since they got this new site, I have given great efforts to come to terms with it.

Impossible.

I am very computer literate, but new site is a nightmare.

As a result, I don't do much shopping at Epps anymore.

It is definitely a convoluted piece of garbage. Not user friendly at all. I really don't like going to the website. It's just aggravating.

I had tried this too. It still gives way over one thousand items; or, if you persist in searching for "kel-tec" only it gives a big zero.

I voiced my displeasure a number of times.

I can agree with many statements here.

The main one is the list of manufacturers. They took the list that was 40 names long and cut it to 12. WTF?

I used to browse the names and see what is new. Manufacturers you never really think of.

How do people know what brands they carry or what is in stock? Before you could just click, click and see if they have the manufacturer you are interested in and what they have in stock.

Who is going to use a search engine for 10 minutes trying to find something. Lame.

Hi Epps. Free advice (For the past 20 years I've been getting paid for these types of things)...
1. In the mid-1990s sites without pictures...kind of optional...giving the data transfer speeds of the day.
2013...well...kind of essential. pictures say a thousand words and all that good stuff.
Take a moment and do one of those Sesame St. "one of these sites ain't like the other" tests on some of the most successful outdoor sales sites. I think the main difference you'll notice is that they all have pictures.
2. There are problems with how your data is being pulled and displayed. For example...
http://ellwoodepps.com/hunting.html
You will notice that the page says "There are no products matching the selection."
Yet, in the left menu it lists...
Category
Firearms (3275)
Firearm Parts (0)
Discounted Accessories (0)
Archery (0)
Gunsmith Services (0)
Brands We Carry (0)
...
now we know you sell archery equipment, yet it lists "0" items (that's not good).
If we select Hunting > Archery from the top menu we do get a page with archery items...
http://ellwoodepps.com/hunting/bow.html

3. The search...as others have pointed out, wastes people's time and they aren't finding what they know you have. There are commercial search options available (i.e. google) that can solve your search problems pronto. Alternatively you can probably hire someone knowledgeable to put something together for you. Pay them in Ar15s perhaps. :)

EE is so busy nowadays, they may not even notice what's happening with their website. Hell, they might not even care. Every time I've ever gone in there it's three deep in the gun room with two guys behind the counter, one of which is always on the phone.

I have found their new HS/LD site to be perfectly useful, albeit a bit kludgy compared to the previous, ULT iteration. I don't ever search for something specific, though. Gun names I don't understand I google to get an image of, since I know that Epps staff have no time to maintain a photo DB of their entire inventory. They barely manage to keep their non-gun inventory straight (lots of time spent looking for something that the 'computer' says is 'in stock' but turns out to not be 'in the building' because another staff member sold it three days ago but didn't accurately and correctly let the inventory system know that......

Have any of you guys, tried to phone? 705-689-5333,And ask if they have what you want.
I live up north. I have made 4 orders in about 3 months.
I called EPPS, talked to a salesman, [WHO WAS VERY KNOWLEDGABLE].
Made my order and within days, my stuff was delivered to my home at my door.
In my opinion, [can't ask better then that].

You can do that during store hours, but most times I'm on late at night when the store is closed or on weekends . Also many times I'm just looking, and if something catches my eye I'll get it, Most times you don't want to call to just ask whats new in stock. I like the store, but the website needs improving.

Epp's is an amazing store, but the search feature is a little clumsy. I used to enjoy seeing what was available while having a coffee. But the search feature would not deter me from taking the drive to check them out.

I was wondering the same thing, if the wheel turns why change it, it goes the same for a TO surplus store Hero surplus
unless you know the exact product # you cant find anything. Why do people change a good working system.????

another problem with the site, you dont know what brands are in stock (besides the small, limited selection of brands on the side bar)

I cant search for smaller brands I never heard of, if they were in a list you can at least check them out
