It was a sunny day so I headed out to the range to try some different ammo. All shots were at 25 yards and the center white target circles are 5/8" in diameter. I'm not a great shot and had a few fliers. I am going to blame the -5C weather as my fingers got cold after a while out there. I did a 10 shot group and two 5 shot groups for each type of ammo.

Overall, I am very happy with the new build. I am definitely convinced that lead bullets are more accurate in my rifle than the copper washed bullets. For the price I am very happy with the Fiocchi Standard Velocity. Will have to go out and buy some more.

thanx for sharing, nicely done.

obviously your (10/22?) doesn't like the federal bulk too much.

I don't like using lead bullets as much, so this shows me that Mini mags are the way to go. plated, powerful and cheap(ish)

Haha your from fort Nelson and complaining about -5 sheesh. Just joking but my 10 22 seems to have a similar diet. Most makes of cci group nice but I seem to get lots of fliers with the federal. Anyone notice the difference in federal bulk as well. Some I find are stamped with a different f, and the difference in quality is quite profound.

With the right ammo and bolt tuning those groups will shrink... Some shots on this thread were from a 10/22 build and some were "at" a 10/22 build...

P.S - ours shoot great @ 50 & @ 100... But by all means try CCI SV's and Wolf MT's if possible.

You left out CCI Standard Velocity?

By far the best ammo out there for your money! At least in every 22 I own....

My S&W41 pistol seems to love them, but my Cooper and Anschutz rifles don't like them. However they do like SK Standard Plus, which has been the most accurate load in most of my rifles for a reasonable price.

So I went out today and tried at 50 yards. Most of the groups are too embarrassing to share . But I did manage one nickel sized group with the Green Tag and a few quarter sized groups with Green Tag and the Fiocchi Standard Velocity. The Federal oddly enough wasn't as terrible as I expected. The real surprise was the CCI Mini Mags which really opened up compared to the 25 yard groups. I will have to try some of the CCI Standard Velocity the next time I order ammo.

What scope is that on your gun? Power range?

Some of today's testing at 50 yards. A lot of really bad groups today which I won't bother to share. There were lots of people there shooting some larger calibers. I'm not so good at tuning out distractions.

10 shot group with the Federal, this was fairly representative of the Federal groups today:

A 10 shot and two 5 shot groups of the Fiocchi. The four shots on the left of the first 10 shot group were actually from the Mini-Mag target which was taped right beside this one. The flyer on the bottom group was my fault:

10 shot group from the Mini Mags. Not sure what happened here, nothing changed between this group and the others. It just opened WAY up. This group is about 3 inches:

5 shot groups with the Green Tag:

Overall I am happy given my very limited experience and skill. I will have to try some new bulk ammo (CCI Blazers perhaps) to see if I get better consistency. I foresee this being a rather expensive hobby if I have to keep buying the Green Tag to get decent groups. Obviously a lot more practice is in order... :D

I have tested Green Tags vs SV's side by side in four different rifles under the same conditions and neither my son nor I could detect one iota of difference in the accuracy department at 50m or 100m... we have stuck with SV's since and buy it by the case.

Any idea where I might find some SV online? I have not seen any in my hunt for ammo.

Try SK Standard Plus, I have had no problems at all getting sub 1/2" at 50 yards for five shots with several rifles with it. My Anschutz 1910 Repeater averages around .250", and has done as good as .150" for five shots. From what I have seen, it is cheaper than the Green Tag as well. Prophet River, and Hirsch Precision handle SK ammunition.

Get a box of 50 of all the cheap ammo (Fed, CCI, WIN, Rem,...) . You may get lucky one of the cheap ammo will shoot well. My CZ455 liked WIN Wildcats with expected 1 flyer out of 10.

I can hook you up with SV's... shoot me a PM... no line-up please.

Hawke Varmint SF 6-24x44. I like to shoot at around 18x as I have pretty weak eyes.

LOL, I need a LOT more practice before attempting this at 100 yards!

I asked about the scope (which is a nice one by the way, I have 8 or 10 Hawke Varmint SF's)... because I like at least 16X @ 50 mters and 24X @ 100 meters in order to shoot little itty bitty groups... "Aim small, miss small!" Your choice of scope is not hurting you... as said above... SK ST+ and Wolf MT's are good also.
