So my brother and I got some 10/22's the other day from a small local gunshop.

He put about 50 rounds through it and the extractor and plunger fell out while shooting...

anyone else experience this?

mine was also failing to eject shells like nobodies business, while shooting american eagle brand

even the odd single pull without trying to squeeze a bunch of shots off and it didn't eject the shell. Very hit and miss. I'm really hoping this is a new gun issue / ammo issue

I'm going to try as many different brands as possible in the next week, started off very disappointed :/

Never heard this happening before, but I would recommend to anyone buying a 10/22 to replace the firing pin & extractor/ejector as these parts are stamped parts.
The aftermarket parts from Power Custom, Kidd, TacSol & Volquartsen are 100 times better then factory.

The firing pin has more contact surface for more positive strikes on the rimfire cartridge.

The extractor/ejector has a sharper edge for more positive ejection of a fired round. if you look at the Ruger factory parts they have a more rounded edge to them.

Also look at upgrading to a Power Custom hammer & sear kit to give a nice trigger job 2.5lbs or lighter cost is around $65.

I understand the custom parts are way better, but I can't understand how unreliable it was out of the box. If I wanted #### like that to happen I would have gotten the 597

I agree....why must a person spend so much money on aftermarket products to get a factory item to work? Why not make it to work in the 1st place. Duh.

American eagle 40gr soft point or the 38gr copper plated? Most 10/22's prefer copper stuff. Although the parts falling out I don't know. Could be the rush to catch up in production has had a few guns pass qc that shouldn't have

I've had my ruger for 28 years and its totally stock, no issues ever.

I have another that is around 18 years old. No issues ever.

And I have one I picked up last week for a build I want to try, tested it out and it was fine.

I'm thinking that since u both got them at the same time they are probably from the same batch and therefore there may be a problem with that batch?

If these swaps are made, can it still be dry fired? Would hate to forget one day...

I got one about 3 years ago and have run a few thousand through it with no problems other than the odd FTE when dirty.
I got a hammer and sear that made it a nice shooter, also an extractor "for when mine fails". It's still sitting in the toolbox.

I hated my 10/22 till I got it dialed in just right, dont give up on it, I cant imagine not having it now. The biggest fix you can do is to re radius the bolt and polish the internals (trigger, hammer, sear, and reciever). The difference was the re radius of the bolt, the volquartzen extractor helped but the bolt was the real fix in the end. It is 100% reliable now in my eyes and 110% a blast to shoot. I put almost a brick through it every week. Im going to wear this thing out before I get old, lol. Now turn your computer off and start polishing, polishing, and more polishing!

Bottom line is that shouldn't have happened straight out of the box.
Why don't you just take it back and get a 597???

Try different ammo. My latest 10/22 (2012) hated that AE crap. Constant FTE's. Try Blazer, Win or Fed bulk and you should see much better results. I don't know what it was about the AE but it wouldn't eject worth a damn. And you don't have to go swapping parts, just find the ammo it likes.

It's been a while since I compared ammo prices and quality but AE use to be food stamp ammo when I was young, you only used it when you couldn't afford real stuff.

Why doesn't the manufacturer just install that in the first place...at much less cost? Add a few bucks to the final price...no upgrades needed

Exactly! Why should you have to pay to fix something that shouldnt be broken. But for some reason people keep buying them like there is no tomorrow and willingly fixing someone else's f**k ups

not sure what the rules are like in Ontario, but out here they don't allow people to return used firearms.....

The reason why they dont put on all those fancy aftermarket parts on at the factory is to keep it cost effective. Do you want them to charge another $100 bucks at the store for a plain jane 10/22? Most people dont have problems, I know of 3 other 10/22s that were bought recently that work excellent but could use a polish to speed up the "break in". Why would you want the remmington semi auto? The 10/22 is the second most customizable gun in the world as far as accessories available. Radius the damn bolt and it will be a different rifle, mine will cycle subsonics no problems.
