It's not hunting it's pest control.
No different than swatting a fly.

I can take it down if its too much

Duffy, gophers are a plague, they need to be hunted with no sympathy or mercy. Not only that but anyone who has had a horse or other live stock break their leg in a gopher hole will tell you that the little bastards deserve every single bullet that comes their way. Normally I would agree that celebrating a kill splattered across the ground is not something a good hunter does, but gophers are different, I will be grinning ear to ear every time I nail a gopher and watch it somersault across the prairie.

Haha that last bit made me loose it.
" We do our summer Olympics different round here ".
Lols, someone needs to splice a video of flying gophers with people raising placards of 5-10 ratings.
Ok I gotta ask though, as someone who lives in the city and mostly plinks at steel or paper. Where the F*** do I sign up to shoot these little bastards, err.. "help out our farmers"?
You can't please everybody. There is nothing I find offensive about this, but some bark eating hippie might. But I guess they don't want to see any other point of view. These are not cute little harmless critters, they are a costly plague.
Yep. My gopher hunting is out on deeded ranchland at the request of a friend. She treats her animals better than most humans treat one another, but she holds nothing back when it comes to gophers. She's had enough animals end up in a bad way because of them, and the damage they do to her hay fields is beyond comprehension. We are talking several thousand dollars worth of loss a year, before me and the boys rolled out there with a glint in our eye and a crate of ammunition at hand.
I try to kill quick as possible, if that's any consolation to the whingers, but I still laugh when I see one exploded by a fast-moving pill, or when they do the headshot dance when one of my Marlins make a statement.
I was just out today, as a matter of fact. Turns out I had no batteries in my camera though, so I can't prove it. Had my new Marlin 7000 out for some fun, and man is it a good gun for reaching out with. Very consistent, even with bulk 555s.

I am in no way opposed to anyone shooting some ground squirrels. It is the blood lust and "grinning ear to ear" that makes me think the fellows helping rid the farmer of a problem are not doing much for the image of hunters. We do not need to try and please anti-hunters but there is a very large group of "non-hunters that we should try and get on our side and not drive them over to the other side.
I don't think I am an extremist either way but am closer to the first group. It is pretty hard to sell non-hunters on hunters enjoying the hunting experience and closeness to nature and fellow hunters with some of the pictures and statements on here. is what I said. Not derailing anything on the thread.

This is the hunting section of CGN, period. If certain people don't like it they can leave and go to other sections of the board.
I've been looking for a gopher shooting buddy here in the Hat. If you take me to your honey hole, I will take you to mine![]()
