So my m&p 9mm came today standard no night sights.

My glock I have the option of night sights of not.

I can understand my work gun and shooting in dark situations, however, for my range guns do I really need night sights???

we are talking about 100.00 difference for the glock.

The only time I would ever have benefitted from night sights at the range was when I accidentally shot some lights out down range!

I think it’s personal preference.

Take the M&P out for a spin, see how you feel about it, then make the judgment call.

I have Trijicon sights on my Glock, their my personal favourite, I find them easy to view and align.

I was in the reserves about 20 years ago while on course and we had to shoot the C7 at night at the range, without illumination, tracers or anything else. It was a figure 11 target at probably 50 yards. I was unable to hit the target.

Could you even see the target?

The Trijicon sights on my Glock are useful not only in low light situations, but in black-sights-on-a-black-target, too. Three dots line up better than post and notch, even in bright daylight.

I had the same option a few weeks ago - I spent the extra for the Trijicon sights, and I'm very happy with them indeed. Even on bright sunny days, I'm glad I spend the extra.

I like to have something other than 'normal' sights on my pistols, just for increased visibilty and contrast. I have Trijicon HD's on my M&P and they're great! I like the contrast of the orange front sight. Personally, I'd get something else, but again, just so there's a contrast of some sort. I find it helps with quicker acquisition and such. And hey, maybe you'll 'need' them in the future ;)

I'm in the minority but I am opposed to night sights. I am all for a front sight that is highly visible but if it's so dark you can't see the sights 2 feet in front of your face, how are you identifying the target?

This is just my personal preference after experimenting playing Tactical Ninja in the dark in my home, I know many others will disagree. :) Use a light to identify the target and night sights get washed out anyway.

Todd Green made a post on this subject on his blog a while back:

I have the standard sights on my pistol, but I was on Ebay and saw that a chinese guy was selling rail mounted light-laser combo
units for $15!! The shipping was a bit more than the price of the unit!! :) Anyway, it arrived, put it on the integral rail under my
pistol's barrel, and sighted it in. Works great for shooting at night if you ever need to, and you can use a light and laser, set it for
just the light, or just the laser. Awesome deal especially when you look at what the US makers want for their light-laser units!

a. Because you can.
b. They are cool.
c. standard glock sights are cheap pieces of plastic.
d. You may hardly if ever need night sights but if you do need them, you will need them very badly.
e. all of the above.

Hate night sights, waste of money for those of us shooting daytime only outdoor ranges.

Got them on my G22 and Scorpion, would not pay extra for them.

Changed my factory G17 sights to FO, so much easier to see.

For me, night sights are a waste of money. I would go with the FO sights instead. Who shoots at night anyways, nearly everyone shoots in the daytime.
