Anyone have the Target model 10/22? Is it worth the extra $$? Any noticeable differences in performance over the basic 10/22 or is the extra cost mostly going into window dressing?

IMO if you want to leave it stock, its a good buy.
If you want to upgrate it, maybe you should buy a used standard model and upgrade it like you want.

I have the baby version of the .223 Target with thumbhole. It shoots tiny little holes with almost any .22. It is HEAVY though but a great bench rest rifle. Depends what you want to do. I am considering getting another version for just blasting fun.

I have the ruger 10/22 target and it's not too bad. After a home trigger job as well as recrowning the barrel at 18.5" instead of 20" it does OK. I have also free floated the barrel and did a quick bedding job with aluminum tape. I have done 5 shot groups at 50 yards that can be covered with a dime using CCI standard velocity. If I could do that consistently I would be very happy.

You won't keep it stock, don't kid yourself.

Just bite the bullet and start a custom build. It's the only way to go if you want to squeeze the most accuracy out of a 10/22.

Otherwise skip it, and just buy a CZ bolt action and shoot tiny groups. It will be half the price of what your gonna put into a 10/22 to achieve the same accuracy.

Great advice

The difference between a basic 10/22 and a target 10/22 is the laminate stock, a slightly lighter trigger pull, a polished "target bolt" and of course a heavy barrel.
I just started from scratch and built my own. (it was WAY more fun...)

Can't remember BR??
I built that rifle around 3 or 4 years ago.
Do you want the 10/22 target version for just plinking or do you plan to bench rest and paper punch with it?

Mostly plinking. I have a 22 bolt if I want to be really accurate. Mostly I just like the target model, and if its a little more accurate for plinking all the better. I like the one you built though, I may look into building one as an alternative to buying the stock target model.

I might have sold Wham-O that barrel, I sold 2 of them on CGN, should have kept one for my self.

Nope...not me Brocolt. If I remember correctly, I bought 2 RFC "Flaming Bomb" Limited Edition barrels directly from Green Mountain.
I sold both of them in builds. I should have kept one for myself too! ;)

I bought that 10/22 from wham-o a couple years back (for pretty big money!)
Love it.

Glad to see your still enjoying it Nodge!

And if you're going to buy a bolt action and shoot tiny groups, get your paws on one of the new .17WSMR and do so up to 250 yards.

Where are guys sourcing receivers? I really don't want to buy a crappy stock one for my next build. Any good source for receivers and bolts? I have stock, barrel and trigger groups ready to go !
