can am 2013 shorty?

I was wondering you guys that bought shorty's from can am ( the 2013 batch they got in February) howthe quality on them and what year are they?
 
Parkerizing is nice, machining on gas assembly is way better.Trigger pull is also pretty good.

My barrel is over indexed and I had to ditch the safety, it would not stay on with the bolt open.
 
I hope mine is good, I got one that should arrive soon. My first one, 2011 blew in my face after 4 round ( got superb service from can am) I'm ready for another try but if its not on the mark I'm done with norinco m14!
 
Hey rally guy, let me know what your new one is like. I am thinking about purchasing one and this is the only really big negative thing I have heard (for the money).
 
Well recive my can am shorty today! Rifle seems pretty nice, the action seems tighter then my previous harpoon gun ;) hahah

One thing, nothing major, my front sight is canted so to compensate it is also of center. Is this fixable? I have only fundle the rifle 5 minutes so pics to come soon as I am not at home for 2 days.
 
I must had that even so at 450 $ and free shipping thoee m305 still are a steel! They feel like a 700-850 $ rifle!

feel like a 700-800 rifle? what posible rifle are you comparing it to? a mini14 is far smoother and doesn't come with potential catistrophic manufacturing errors., tikkas and reminiton 700's are far supior in fit finish and overall quility, even CZ858s are leap ahead in fit and finish.
It feels like a $150 rifle that happens to fire .308, I say $150 because at $179 you can get a SKS that has a better fit and finish and is more realiable with less manufacturing issues

so far of the two people that have reported on this batch we have a bad index issue and a defunct safty. that 2 for 2 bad

This got me thinking, I hope this m14 does not commit suicide by harpoon gun after 4 round like my first did LOL.

rally guy, bear in mind the canted front sight means an improperly indexed barrel, the same reason they gave you last time when the barrel blew in two. I still think it's a metallurgy issue and "over-indexing" highly unlikely to cause immediate barrel failure, but food for thought.

Wear glasses and gloves... :)

And POWERWAGON, sorry to hear. That's a mild failure at least.

Thanks for the info!. I went to the range yesterday. I got vision glasses, first time I do that, I took them of, put safety glasses and gloves! I fired about 30 round and it worked flawlessly pick to come.

My 2012 Can Am shorty had a front sight that looked similar. Very distracting to use. It turns out that the barrel was not over-indexed but the front sight/flash hider itself was canted. After removing the front sight/flash hider it was obvious that the internal splines were machined quite a few degrees off. Amazing. Much better than an over-indexed barrel though!
