My transfer was approved yesterday and it was shipped today ! Delivery should not take long canam is only a 40 min drive away .. gona shoot the piss outa her this weekend ..

So was mine . Took a total of 2 weeks from doing the deal & pistol shipped . My mint S&W 66 will be here next Tues :dancingbanana: .... (And it was a private deal ! )
Unfortunately my 1911 combo ordered a month ago is still in the twilight zone ha:

I love all these posts about how great E-Bay is to get grips !
I'm sure they are the same guys condemning E-Bay in other threads
lol

Question ? If i remember right there is a guy/company in Canada you can send your Norc 1911 to and they will strip it down , smooth it out , tune refinish ect? please let me know ..

You don't mean Armco I hope .
If you think waiting for your combo from Canam was long . Send your 1911 to Armco & they will do an assume job tuning it up . But you won't see your gun for a very very very long time :D

Ordered mine on 30 Apr. Going to receive it today (30 May) according to CanPar tracking:

Ordered VZ grips from Amazon.ca. Very nice at $65 shipped. VZ is definately top shelf.

I called the BC CFO at 9.30am today and got my transfer approved over the phone. I had them email me a copy of the notice. I then faxed and emailed it to canam. I get an email from Canada Ammo 4 or 5 hours later with the tracking numbers. :p

I am doing the same tomorrow, have to call anyway so might as well get er done!

Been trying to order these grips. Seller says its against eBay policy to ship international? Really? We're talking about grips here.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221216917891?redirect=mobile
I know i can get them shipped to a po box in the us, but this seems like a waste of time. Anyone else have any experience with this?

Yes, they don't like to ship internationally, not because its against ebay policy, but because of US export laws, everyone is terrified of making a mistake.
I ordered grips off of EBAY in the US, and had them send to a US address, then collected them!

Some will ship some will not,I think they have to have export approval or something, however even if they say they won't ship international, message them asking if they will to Canada. I have 2 sets coming from the states different dealers both said U.S. only but a message sent got them to ok it.Get them to send usps not ups. Charge should be between $6-$10 for a set of grips!

wow, so after dis assembly, cleaning, there wasnt much to do, I polished and rounded off the odd edge here and there, literally took me 5 minutes (well 15 min to learn to break down the gun and put it back together, much more complex then on my M&P)

trigger is niiiice and butter smooth now, didnt need very much to be honest. Added some bright glo green paint to the sights

I spent too much time ogling it and fine tuning it to hit the range today, but I will tommorow!
We need (we, meaning us who have not cleaned up and dehorned a norc before) a video done by someone showing what particular parts to clean up/dehorn and an idea of how far to/not go. I think I get the picture that you ake very little off of the rouh edges!
Anybody here got that kinda talent, or has it been done? Couldnt find much on youtube about the deburring 1911.

Cleaned and was playing around with my 3 1911's this morning. A SAM Government, a Nork Government from 4 years ago, and this newest addition to the family - the CanAm 1000 round special.

Out of the box, my SAM Government felt like it had the smoothest action, with nicer (and I think more easily replaceable) sights. I've only got about 150 rounds down the pipe with that guy. (I won it at a charity shoot last year and it's mostly been a safe queen... with all this ammo, that might just change).

My Nork 1911 Government from 4 years ago with probably 2000 rounds was next.

The Nork I just got from CanAm looked and felt slightly lower grade than my older one. On my older, broken in Nork:
  • The bluing seems a bit nicer,
  • The safety isn't as stiff,
  • The slide stop is easier to take out,
  • The trigger feels about the same,
  • The barrel bushing was easier to remove,
  • The action feels much less gritty,
  • The sites are adequate, but nothing to get excited about on both (same site). I believe it would be quite difficult to replace either of them - I don't know how the front site would come off to be honest.
  • The overall machining looks a little bit smoother

I don't recall what my older Nork was like was like when it was new - but on the CanAm special, I threw on some Hogue grips I stumbled across in my battery of gun parts, and it feels quite nice.

I'll note I paid $325 for that older Nork with 1 magazine when I first got into shooting handguns. If I consider the .45 ACP full priced, at $0.33/round, I would consider this $170 1911 with 2 magazines an EXCELLENT value.

I think the price differential accounts for what seems like an initial lower quality, but it may also be that with the older Nork I've run a few thousand rounds through it and I suspect (hope) that after being broken in, some of the kinks will just work their way out with the new one.

Not at all dissatisfied with my purchase. The price was right, and I'm really looking forward to breaking this bad boy out during my charity shoot tomorrow!

Thanks CanAm (pics to follow).

generally my method is to run my fingers along every edge, paying closer attentions to edges that move against something, then slowly polish those moving edges smooth, we are talking about taking off .001 mm of material at most.

I need to buy a camera... so much awesomesauce needs to be filmed.

I recieved two cartons of cheese and a box of Clif Bars from Canpar earlier in the week. I'm on holidays right now so I didn't have a chance to check them out, but will do when I get home.
