10/22 question

Hey guys, I am looking to start a side business making aftermarket stocks, and have decided to start with the ruger 10/22...Everyone seems to have one and I know theres a market for that stuff... My question is (im pretty sure the answer is yes): Exluding barrel length are all 10/22 built to the same dimensions (as in the action portion). I will be getting one, but before i invest money and time into this venture I figured i should double check... If anyone is curious, my first design is modeled after the HK PSG-1...

I think an aftermarket stock for the 10/22 Takedown would sell like hotcakes, seeing as there aren't really any out there yet.
 
It will be fiberglass (or if people want to spend the money, carbon fiber). "Kits" would be the correct term, as it will be different pieces to try to simulate the real thing...A bit more complicated, but I own a mossberg 715t and although its a blast to shoot, i dont like how its just two pieces sandwiched together. I'd rather see a kit with the different parts (upper/lower, handgaurds etc - although this would of course be just for show).
 
The 10/22 Takedown model has slightly different dimensions. I was told by a distributor that I could not just swap in an aftermarket trigger housing. It would have required some minor grinding to make it fit.
 
It wouldnt be solid fiberglass...It would be seperate parts that are hollow...still clamshell concept, just not all one piece, if that makes any sense... there are also industry "tricks" to decrease the weight and retain the strength. While i am still in the "design it on the computer stage" I will post pics when i have a working prototype (it will be a lengthy process though...)

I dropped in a Timney trigger group without any problem. Works great.

My mistake - I just checked the email response from Jerry over at Mystic Precision. It was the SR22 he said would require a little relief work. At that time, he was not sure about the fit in the Takedown model. Good to know that it's a drop in fit.
 
You would have to confirm this but I was watching a youtube review of the Troy Chassis and it specifically states that there have been some changes in the dimensions of the receiver over the years. It is very slight but does make some stocks fit tighter and some really sloppy apparently...
 
Theres already lots of stocks and accessories for the 10/22 but if you did something for the marlin 795 you would have the market cornered
 
Please consider changing the stock so that they can accept a regular recoil pad and also increase the length of pull by another inch. I once bought a custom stock from the owner of Wildcat stocks who had modified his stock that way and it made it a more man sized fireman. Good luck with your new endeavor.
