Is there actually a number of restricted guns (eg handguns + a few AR's) that if you go over, you get put on a list for periodic inspections?
This is no myth; it clearly states in the Firearms Act (Section 102(1) <-- this is a link) that an Inspection may take place in:
any place in which the inspector believes on reasonable grounds there is a gun collection […] or any place in which the inspector believes on reasonable grounds there is a prohibited firearm or there are more than 10 firearms
This means if you are registered as a Collector rather than a Target Shooter when you apply for your RPAL, or if you have any Prohibited fire-arms, or more than 10 of any kind Registered to you, they have all the ‘reasonable grounds’ to believe that section applies to you.
The vast majority of such fire-arms owners NEVER get asked for an Inspection. Thus it's not something to worry about, but that doesn't make it a myth.
I never knew this. I cut and pasted this from a conversation in Legalese.
Could be right & it could be wrong, homework may be req'd...
