Norinco .223 ammo

Its not that hard to get a bad batch of ammo from a manufacturer. Sounds like that is what happened with the 93. soft skins, irregular basses, undersized any which of these will cause keyholing. Its obviously the ammo as it occurred in three different rifles and switching ammo cured the problem. Its not the rifles.

I got half a crate of 95 and it shoots well enough in my 1 in 10 Swiss Arms. I shot a service rifle match last weekend and it performed quite well during the 500 and 400 yard deliberates. I dropped a few points, but this was due to not compensating properly for the cross wind. Almost all the shots were within a 12" circle, centered about 6" from the edge of the V bull.

Ok, sorry for the thread revival here, but I saw someone with a chronograph at the range today and so did some testing. I knew this ammo was hot but WOW, 3276 fps is really hot!!!

Both loads are hotter than most, but the CJ93 is consistently hotter.

Seems within M193 specs:

I get light primer strikes out of my T3 with norc 223

The Norc 223 has the hard military primers. Lots of folks are reporting some issues with non-military type guns. No issues with it in my Tavor or our Norinco M4 clones.

Cheers

I have a case with head stamps CJ 95 that I've had some failure to feed's because the bullet set back into the case when gun (NEA-15) tried to go into battery. 5 in the first 40 rounds I fired did this. Not too impressed with that. At this rate I will have 200 rounds that are no good. I have mic'd a couple and they seem to be .224...

Anyone have this issue?

Other than that, I like the ammo. It seems hot, like others have mentioned.

sounds like a problem with the gun, not the ammo......

Maybe. I never thought of that. It works fine with AE and S&B. I have about 400 rounds of that run through the gun with zero malfunctions...

I am part of a small group of shooters, we recently did a group buy of the CJ95, and have run about 3000 rounds so far between the group of us, in that time, through 4 different guns (a Swiss, 2 different XCR's, and a DD mk18), we haven't seen any malfunctions that could be attributed to the ammunition.

I did however see some light primer strikes on some of the CJ95 with a friends NEA SBR

I had a similar issue but it turned out to be a mag-related issue. Were you using the Norinco ammo in a LAR mag by chance? The Norinco 223 I had was 2 thou longer than the Federal AE stuff I had...that increase in OAL combined with the crappy followers in my LAR mags seemed to be what caused the occasional stoppage where the projectile ended up shoved into the case like you described. After installing Magpul followers in the LAR mags I've never had the problem since.
