Just received a PPS-50 with Federal Ammo

Just wondering, I just received a PPS-50 Puma from Pietta and the user manual wants ammo with a minimum velocity of 1300 fps but the Federal ammo shipped from Canada Ammo (part of the package deal) is 1240 fps (on the box).

Is this sufficient to cycle the rifle properly? I don't have any experience with this rifle and don't want to take any chances.

I'm sure it will work fine. I don't think they'd make it a combo if it didn't. Most of the 22lr your going to see is under 1300fps anyways unless your going to go with a cci stinger or the like. It wouldn't be a smart move to make a rifle that doesn't function with 75% of 22lr ammo.
 
I own two and they will only function with CCI Stingers. Minimag 40grain just haven't got enough umpfh to cycle the action.

Are you going to get the 50 round drum mag for it? How long did it take for the pps-50 to deliver after purchase, just curious?
 
That's unfortunate to hear. I really thought they'd make it work for regular velocity ammo. Kind of a turn off if you ask me.

Yupp, on the way. The plastic version.
Too bad the ammo that was sent won't work. :(

I think elapsed time was around 2 to 3 weeks. I live in Ontario so that chewed up a week in shipping time.

I don't own one personally by one of my best friends has one what I shoot regularly. We have put jut about everything from blazers to stinger (including federal champions bulk box) in it and the only thing that has changed was the cost per trigger pull. Haven't hat a hiccup as of yet. This thing is a lot of fun to shoot. And is awesome looking to boot!

Ok, good to know. To play it safe I'll break in the rifle with the stingers and then try the slower ammo.

I have heard of similar cycling issues with .22 handguns like GSG 1911 where they recommend HV rounds. Someone finally figured out that it was the cheap black paint they use on the slide (just where it slides on the receiver) that caused excessive friction. Removing the paint with a bit of sand paper (or cycling the gun with higher speed ammo) and coating with Ballistol allowed them to shoot all ammo. Don't have my ATT yet, but will try this on the handgun too.

Just got back from the range with the PPS-50 and I think I'm in love! Very nice gun and I understand why they have 30 and 50 round magazines! This rifle can go through the ammunition very quickly.

I started with the stingers about 150 rounds and then switched to the federal ammo. Both worked without serious problems. Also tried about 10 rounds of each in the drum and had no issues. This is the first gun that was really a joy to use!

Good to know, it's been 2 weeks since I ordered my pps-50, can't wait to test it out. My 50 round drum and my new 4x32 site has already arrived and waiting the gun now.
 
Just got mine took 4 weeks to get it. I put about 150 rounds of Rem golden bucket 22 though it a few jams with the 50 round drum how ever that could have been me not letting the trigger back 100% on those. No jams with the stock 10 round mag. How ever I had a ton of jams with the Federal stuff. Tired 80 rounds of it over the course of the night lots of jam. Any suggestions. The Rem stuff goes though it nice. I love the gun though. I am hoping the federal stuff does not jam in my S and W .22
 
I use the bulk pack fed champions and they have a velocity of about 1240fps & the gun works fine. The only thing mine didn't like was win wildcats it would jam after every shot.
 
Mine arrived yesterday, and it came with federal ammo, guess I will try it in the drum mag and see how many jams it gets. Did anyone notice on the box which the drum mag came in, says "this checkered lead could create jamming problems with the drum magazine." It says this on the box. The fed ammo that came with this pps-50 is all checkered lead bullets.

Does anyone know any .22 ammo brand where the bullets are not checkered? It would of helped if pitta recommended a preferred ammo to save everyone the aggravation

I bought a site that fits both weaver and picatiny rails, but the rail on this gun is not wide enough, so I'm gonna look for a bracket mount to make it attachable now sheesh..... Gotta spend more $$$ to make it work
