Investing in Black Rifles... is it still a good idea?

Lately I've been contemplating spending a grand or two on a nice new rifle.

The only thing that has me a little concerned is the possible reclassification of semi automatic rifles to prohibited.

I've been considering a sweet norinco m14 built, or maybe a tavor or type 97..
Now I'm not interested in spending a bunch on a gun and its accessories if I'm going to have to surrender it in a year or two.

My question is, how likely is it that I might lose a m14, or type 97 over the next little bit. If I'm building a nice rifle, is it safe to go for a semi automatic rifle, or am I better off making a nice bolt action build or something like that?

I don't base my purchases on 'what if's'...

Buy what you want if its available & legal... Write letters & be part of the solution... Which brings me to my next point... Did you write the Prime Minister, his Minister of Public Safety & his Minister of Justice over the Swiss Arms issue? I did, and I don't even own a Swiss Arms!!!

Like I said, buy it & become part of the solution...

I have to advise you that this is a very bad way to look at it. Buy the restricted black rifle and stand up for your rights. Once the ARs and shorty carbines are gone, the Type 97s and M1As are next.

think if you dont buy them now you may not be able later, the more black stuff in the public the harder it will be for the gov to take away.
 
Just because they reclassify a firearm to prohib from restricted, does that mean automatic confiscation? I don't think so. I was grandfathered for a .32 handgun long ago, wouldn't the same grandfathering process still apply (I guess it would be at their discretion???). However, if they grandfather, then get them now while you still can??

Yes, it does. Grandfathering is no longer in effect/applicable. There have been some instances of compensation, others not.
 
Well the majority seems to be saying to just go for it regardless of whether or not they become prohibited down the road.

This is more or less the stand point that I was planning on taking.

The arbitrary reclassification of rifles has me worried however. As a young person putting myself through school, I can not afford to lose thousands on the whims of politicians.

The main reason that I was primarily considering the norc m14 was because of its popularity among sport shooters. Feeling that the popular rifles are far less likely to be victimized than the ones that are less wide spread.

I think that I'm probably just going to go for it and enjoy these things while I can!

Like Jay said, "buy one and be part of the solution".

I've got a few items that may be on the chopping block shortly - but I'm still lookin'.
 
I have a 16 year old son and 2 daughters. I want to do everything I can to ensure THEIR (inherited) rights are protected. As such I am buying everything I can and putting every dog in the fight I can muster.
 
I've been thinking of getting a coffee, it's about a 5 minute walk over to the coffee shop, but I'm worried that they may be out of Coffee when I get there.. maybe I'll just have a drink of water, and not risk it.

Restricted Firearms WILL BE prohibited, ALL Firearms will be prohibited, not today, not tomorrow, maybe not even in your life time. But it will happen.

Either through legislative creep .. coupled with liberal social engineering.. or when our new alien overlords take over and outlaw humans from posession of weapons on pain of deep and uncomfortable probing. It will happen.

but for now, Arm up and shoot.. this ain't no dress rehearsal

Good to see that's the direction you are leaning! I love my M14, it was a new 2007 Marstar purchase & I did the Hungry clinic, added USGI rear sights & a USGI stock, a oprod guiderod & a 8 thou shim on the gas cylinder AND a sparrowhawk dummy selector kit. It's a sweet rig!
