I know of the Famas, and some parts are produced for other big named companies in Europe, but what small arms companies are big in France??? You never here much from them...

1. Nexter (formerly GIAT Industries) It appears they are the only small arms manufacture in France???

2. Matra BAE Dynamics Alenia (MBDA)

3. Thales Group (Thales

I guess they only concentrate on bigger ticket items for modern Militaries as oppose to small arms...

Keep in mind that firearms in France for "civilian" sales cannot be supplied in "military" chamberings. So no 9mm, 5.56 or 7.62 NATO offerings.

Some mfgr make alternatives in say .222 REM rather than .223 Rem (5.56 NATO) for example.

Export sales of course would be another matter.

"...think they all come with white flag adapters..." Idiototic insult to every French troopie, Resistance fighter, et al from W.W. I, W.W. II and Viet Nam. Learn some history!!!
"...only concentrate on..." I believe Fusil d'Assault de la Manufacture d'Armes de St-Etienne(that is GIAT) only makes kit for the French and a few Arab copuntries. Certainly no civilain sales.

Don't forget the French Foreign Legion. They were a tough and formidable foe in every arena they went into.

not black but Unique made some of the finest bolt rifles one could buy. still highly sought after by French collectors. if you would like to see what the French public buy look at naturabuy.fr. don't forget the www.

So a quick search found a site called, 'France Armes'. ARs made by Hera, some in 223, don't understand that, but a number in 222. They have M14s in 7mm-08 and 300 savage. Seems they make some of their own stuff like barrels.

Civilians in France aren't allowed to have rifles in Military calibres. .222 and 7mm-08 and the like are quite common there.

Still are - getting it done very nicely in Mali - ask any homeless Taliban

Sadly they're pulling their 4000 elite strong out soon, to be replaced by those god awful african forces, 500 Chinese (oil interests?) and 1000 Bangladeshi (what???). Dunno if they have the muster to keep the line against those Islamic fanatics, maybe France will have to come back in 6 months.

Civilians in France ARE allowed to own firearms chambered in .223. They are not as popular as the .222 because there is a limit to purchasing 1000 rounds of any 'military caliber' (5.56x45mm, 9mm, etc.) per year per owner, while .222 can be purchased without limitation. There are also different licensing requirements. Home reloading is allowed.
