Tried a little experiment yesterday+ More + Pics Now

C-FBMI,
Any chance of a picture or two of the cases side by side?

I have read of guys forming it from Norma or rws 8x68s brass... But I am not sure if that's anymore common, or how well it would work.

OK managed to get some pics for you guys.

Fired cases, now remember that he fired a 9.3 bullet so the pressure would have been very low, but the case did form quite well.

Cases after full length sizing in 375 Imposter RCBS dies

Be interesting to load and fire the same belted case a few times, see if you get any separation above the belt. IIRC that is one of the issues the other guys using belted cases for non belted chambers had. I think that there brass thinned a bit in that area, which caused some cracks after awhile from stretching, although I think when they kept pressure in check there wasn't much lengthening of the case so it took a number of firings.

Now that I think about it, when the NEW KING was first introduced, I think someone on some other website did the same thing until he got some brass. Or maybe it was an article somewhere....

I had one of the first NEW KINGs that were available in Canada but I recieved 2 boxes of factory ammo a few days prior to receiving the rifle. No dies yet, so I used a 300RUM die to slightly size the body then a H&H die to seat a bullet, although I was just playing around. FOrtunately the dies showed up shortly after.

Doug, you do realize that you've probably added years of service to the .375 lil Imposter. I say lil Imposter because my reconstituted .375 Ultra is also an imposter, although an imposing one. Looks like my pal's .375 lil Imposter is going to have an endless supply of inexpensive brass now. Thanks for that.

I wonder if the chamber was cut poorly, it kind of sounds like the reamer had a wobble and opened it up a bit towards the muzzle, thus the brass expanded towards the tip making it harder to pull brass.

I don't have years and years of experience reloading or gun smithing, so that is not a professional analysis, just a question.

Ardent........flip back a page for photos !!

cody c....rifle is 5 years old and this brass has been fired approx 5 times, can't be in the original machining, as it's a new problem in an old rifle with well used brass.

Went down to the vault and was playing last night and made up a dozen cases for the kid from w-w 300 WM, expanded them up to 40 cal then ran them through the 375 Imposter die. Now he can load them up to fireform and try some testing with them. I made up an expander to run 30-06 up to 40 cal for making 360 Wagner cases so it worked great. Split some cases though as these were older used cases I sacrificed to this experiment, none of my 200 new ones. When we go to do a 100 or two I'll anneal necks and shoulders right off the hop and should eliminate splitting. He may go to R-P as they reform much easier than W-W, I tried one of them and a Fed as well and both of them slid up the expanding mandrel like it wasn't there. Then again the whole point is to get a better quality brass so I'll probably have to get him a bunch of W-W and teach him how to anneal.
Hell with such an easy solution to the brass problem, I may have to buy one of them Ruger African clubs myself or better yet I could whip up a barrel on my Sako Finnbear 375 and play with the Imposter, just for the helluvit !!! Then I could let Gatehouse know what the cartridge is TRULY capable of............LOL

Boomer.....375 RUM and 378 Wby are not trying to be H&Hs like the Imposter, they have a class all their own, and a recoil class to match. Not managable by all like the H&H can be with practise. These two are only for the well seasoned shooter who has made himself/herself accustomed to heavy recoil.

30-404 ,crap that is some serious case capacity, did you develop it far enough to get real numbers through a crono. + learn what bullet weights shot well?

One other neat thing Boomer that we tried, his rifle headspaces factory 300 WM perfectly, so no need to go to all the trouble I did, just buy factory 300 WM pop 'em in the Imposter and pull the trigger, VOILA...375 Imposter brass.

Yep, sure did and then Rem came out with the identical case 10 years later.........ever heard of the 300 Remington Ultra Magnum? Drawings are identical, shoulder angle and placement, OAL, everything except they put .005" more body taper than my design. I even rebated my rims to use on a standard magnum bolt face, just like they did. Guess my design must have been OK, if Rem saw fit to SAAMI it. And for those who know the Imperial Magnum line-up, my design pre-dates theirs as well.
Reamer was made by JGS and only ever cut one chamber.

Have you tried cutting one of the fireformed brass length-wise to take a look at the cross-section? I'd be curious as to how the brass flowed around the area of the belt. This is very interesting indeed, except for the fact that I am not really intersted in the .375 Ruger.
