Looking for some input on a new range bag. As long as it can hold three or four pistols, a coupla mags each, 100 or so rounds per caliber (two .22 pistols, one 9mm, one .45ACP), a binder for targets and transportation documents, and a few small tools. Pistols would be in soft cases inside the bag. That's about it, thanks!

Just bought this one and with 5.95 shipping it's terrific:

Includes the cases...

I just use a Jobmate tool bag from Canadian Tire. Buy the size that you need.

That's exactly what I use. Though, I bought a set and use different sizes depending on the day.

OP, you can spend as much as you want. Some people use $300 carts, and some use two dollar reusable shopping bags. What do you want to spend?

I got this bag from Tuff Products, very rugged and versatile, I can fit 5 pistol/revolvers in this bag using the 2 padded inserts and 3 pistol rugs.

I used to use all kinds of cheap totebags, until I got a 5.11 Range Ready. Big enough for everything including small hardcases for pistols. Really well designed bag.

FWIW & IMO - you may want to reconsider the soft case for transporting your restricted pistol.

5.11 Range Ready is a great bag. You can get it at good prices, but not necessarily with CGN dealers.

I started a thread on the same topic in the Action Shooting forum about three months ago, if you want to check it out. Ended up going with the CED Deluxe range bag from Murray Gardner in BC. Great bag, very happy with it.

I followed up with the RCMP Firearms Program to see if they would five any clarification on range bags for transporting restricted firearms. Unfortunately they would neither confirm nor deny their suitability. However if you read into their response, they certainly don't give a glowing endorsement.

Thank you for your inquiry.

In regards to your question about your chosen transportation method, our standard is to supply individuals with safe transportation requirements as the owner chooses the method they wish to employ in order to meet them. Our endorsement of yours or anyone else's transportation arrangement would be irrelevant as the responsibility for enforcement of the regulation falls to the police and if an individual should be charged with unsafe transportation, the final determination would fall to a judge who would most likely base their decision on their understanding and interpretation of the regulation.

All firearms must be stored, transported and displayed safely, in accordance with the Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations. (a PDF copy is attached).

Regarding transportation of restricted firearms, you must ensure that transportation of the firearm is discrete and ensure that the general public cannot determine what is being transported. You will need to obtain an authorization to transport (ATT). (a PDF form is attached)

The Regulations state the minimum basic requirements for meeting transportation of firearms safely. When an individual is unsure if their chosen transportation arrangement meet these requirements, key factors that they may want to consider are time, tools and effort.

- How much time would it take for an individual to circumvent your arrangements?

- What type of tools would they require?

- How much of an effort would they need to make?

Provincial, territorial and municipal laws, regulations and by-laws may also apply.

When you consider the bolded points you have to ask yourself if you feel comfortable with a zipper and a lock. Especially since a ballpoint pen is all you need to break into a zipper.
