Do you use brass polish to tumble brass before reloading?

Will it cause an issue with primers or powder?
Does it make a difference?
Brass polish or not?

I was given to understand that most brass cleaners contain ammonia which will weaken the brass over time. I like the walnut tumbling media from Lyman that contains jewelers rouge. I get lovely clean polished cases out of it.

I used to add polish to the mix, now I just turn it on and let it run however long it needs until they come out clean. I have a lot of brass that was run through corn cob media with ammonia based polish, never a problem with powder or primers, never seen any decrease in the life of brass either.

Have been adding Flitz to my corn meal medium for years....Never an issue that I have found....Sure seems to speed up the cleaning process.

Newbie to reloading but I've been using the green treated cob and seems to do a decent job so far. I've been told the red tuffnut version shines up the brass even more.

I have used Brasso with my walnut shells for decades & have always been pleased with the results. Like the looks of shiney brass & also believe that clean brass is better for my dies.

I just use plain tumbler media and let it run overnight. Come's out cleaner and shinier than most factory ammo. Tarnishes a bit again over time. I'm not convinced there is any real value in making your brass look nice, other than if you desire it.

Brasso is OK to use; the amount of ammonia in a capful is very small relative to a tumbler full of media and brass.

Peek metal polish is what I use in my tumbler.

If your going to use stuff like brasso , add it to your media let it run by itself the open it and let the ammonia evaporate for a day or two.

A lot of people use Nufinish.

I use NuFinish, it works great and doesn't leave any residue on or in the brass case, plus it's ammonia free.

I use Brasso polish with nice results. I have tested with and without and yes, it does make a difference, with no damage ever noticed !

I know I'm way too anal about brass polishing but I use Lyman green treated corn cob to do the initial polish to remove any heavy fouling and then tumble again in fine ground untreated corn cob with a small dash of Flitz media polish. Brass comes out blazing bright. I figure that if I can't be the best shooter I'll at least have the best looking reloads on the line. :D
