Just returned hunt from a spontaneous coyote hunt. Grabbed the Winchester 70 Coyote lite chambered in 270 WSM and a handful of Hornady 110 grain handloads and walked out into the field in the direction where I have heard a few howling the past few nights. Got set up on the edge of a cornfield that looked out into an alfalfa field surrounded by mixed bush. Just sat for about 20 minutes getting settled and hit the FoxPro cottontail. After only about 3 minutes I see the yote come running out of the bush to the left about 350 yards away crossing about 200 yards to the other side of the field .

I shut the call off and it starts jogging towards where he last heard the call. He gets about 125 yards away ( I thought it was about 150 but later ranged it) and stops in a high spot of alfalfa. All I can see is the top of his head so I put the crosshair where I think his chest should be and pull the trigger. As you can see the shot was a little high but I don't think he felt a thing. The 110 grain Hornady did its job.

Ugh, what a mess

Unfortunatly, that's hunting right? ####, if i had a dollar for every partridge i've blown up by accident over the years, well, i'd probably only have about 20 dollars but still...it happens. :(

Where did you hit that thing OP? In the mouth or back of the head?
