Hey guys I know yesterday I brought up the Beretta issue but I am comparing the two , they are both 9mm I have herd very good story's on the Taurus pt99 and I have herd very bad ones as well . I have herd the Taurus pt99 is a very good reliable gun but then some people say if anything brakes on the gun parts are very hard to come by for the Taurus pt99 . what do you guys think of the Taurus pt99 ?

A local gun range had a Taurus that they used to rent out on the range. That gun fired thousands of rounds, never a problem.

Personally, I prefer them over the Berretta; It's basically the same gun, doesn't cost as much, and is of the older Beretta design, where the safety is on the frame, not the slide; which is what I prefer.

Either way, you can't go wrong with either, they are both good guns..

Girsan.....true Beretta 92F clones (minus the finger grooves) for $450

I have had many Taurus models as well as Beretta. I far prefer the Taurus. The PT-99 AF or AF-D (d is the decock model, newer one) are excellent shooters and a great value. I never had a single issue with the 6-8 Taurus pistols I owned.

It's not a Taurus, takes Beretta parts/mags/holsters which are easy to source, cheaper then a Taurus, and it's not a Taurus :)
If someone is looking for a Beretta clone, I'd steer them to this over Taurus any day.

Have you ever owned a full size semi-auto Taurus?

FYI, Taurus bought the Beretta factory in Brazil in the 80s. Everything became their property, from drawings, to tooling, machinery, and workers.

Nothing against the Girsan, but I fail to see why and how it equates to Taurus being a bad choice.

Propriety parts and complete lack of customer service is why Taurus is a poor choice. Gun breaks a small part, spring or firing pin, its out of commission.

Clearly, you've never owned a Taurus.

- I fail to see how proprietary parts are a problem. Whats wrong with needing taurus parts for a taurus gun anyway?
- Taurus firearms have an unlimited lifetime repair policy. How does Girsan's compare?
- Freedom Ventures is their Canadian Distributor
- I had a small part to replace on a Taurus recently, their canadian warranty center took care of it within a week. How does Girsan's compare?

The reasons you bring up would only be brought up by someone who doesn't own a Taurus while relying on rumors he read on the internet. What you claim is not factual. If you have other factual reasons as to why Taurus is a poor choice I'd like to hear them, but these ones don't cut it.

Easy man, easy...

Only speaking for myself, but I have no problem with owning a Taurus. I would love to get an OSS 24/7, held one a few years back and it was a perfect fit for my hand. I briefly owned a PT 92 but traded it for a Sig P 225 before I fired it :)D even trade, that's a story in its self). It was a well made gun as far as I could tell, no obvious diff between it and my Beretta 92 Compact.

As for parts and repair, the idea of being able to swap parts from a Berretta and a Girsan warms my heart. The lifetime repair warranty is even nicer assuming Taurus remains in operation...nothing is forever.

i own a pt 99 in stainless. love it and would never trade it for a beretta,,i,got my PT used.it is my beater gun, never a hickup in over 10 years of shooting. the safety is better placed on the PT,and screw beretta with their new "plastic" guide rod..

As long as Turkey remains a country they should be around. They supply their entire armed forces and police. If not.....Beretta parts fit.

And the closest I ever came to owning a Taurus was shooting a Springfield 1911....I would never buy a Taurus :)

Taurus employs over 3,000 people. Their revenue for 2012 was $342 million, which is up from the previous year. Considering they've been around for 60+ years, I'm not sure why anyone would be worried about them going under anytime soon.
