On a resent trip to the US,I just saw a pic in the latest OnTarget magazine that Magpul was making a dedicated 10 rd mag for AR's. I'm wondering if the same legality would apply to them as it does to the RRA 10 rd pistol mags ?

Alberta Tactical approached Magpul to make ten round dedicated pistol mags. Magpul said no.

Alberta Tactical then approached CAA with the request. CAA said yes.

ATRS is currently sold out. In about 2 months they will have more. They are shaped like a CAA 20 round mag, are polymer, and the next batch will be in Black, Tan and Olive Drab.

Forget magpul. Polymer pistol mags are already here.

Couldn't agree more. They are fantastic mags.

CAA mags are crap compared to Magpul. Its cool they are making the pistol ten rounders for us and it looks like my AA Beo mags are made by them too but no where near Magpul quality.

YMMV, but my 6 CAA pistol mags are as good as any of my 17 Gen 2 PMAGS, and the CAA mags hold twice as many rounds. I really can't justify buying a 5 round mag for nearly the same price as a ten round mag that runs as good.

FORGET ATRS...We want a MAGPUL Price. $20 or less.
10 round pistol mag...no pinning required.

So BUY Magpul and live with 2 times more reload time.
As others have stated, Drake at Magpul flatly refused to manufacture 10 round pistol mags for us regardless of the quantity we ordered. So we moved on, found a manufacturer who make extremely high quality polymer mags and that WAS willing to manufacture SMALL lots of mags for us. The key here is that anything that is made in massive amounts costs less, unfortunately the Canadian market is small, hence only orders of a few thousand can be placed, which makes for increased costs of manufacturing and shipping.

Care to enlighten us all as to how you came to tsuch a decisive conclusion?

I mean, buy the sound of it you’ve done extensive testing* of both products over a period of time that could only led you to conclude that yes, CAA mags are, and I quote, “crap compared to Magpul”.

How are they crap exactly (inferior, of less quality, poor design, prone to breakage, etc)?

*That is of course other than drinking the magpul cool-aid..

The CAA magazines are comparable to the Magpul MOE (older) PMAGs. I have seen some issues with followers sticking on the CAA magazines, but some G95 seemed to remedy that. I wouldn't say they're crap (I think that title is reserved for the LAR15's), but the new PMAG M3s are the gold standard at this point (albeit limited to 5 rounds).

I've got 10 of them and they haven't been sticking, but a bit of lub as you said and they are good to go should the need arise.

I fully agree with you, the new M3s are fantastic mags, but for him to say that they (ATRS's CAA mags) flat out CRAP, is complete and utter BS.

But gotta give it to some members here that have a real solid quality mag made that will meet and exceed the need of 98% of those who'll use them and STILL it's not good enough :)
