I was just at wholesale sports in Wpg and picked up a nice unissued 1953 izhevsk sks non refurb too all for $229 pics up soon

They actually get a lot of nice SKS's there. You just have to get there before the staff buy em or hold them for friends. I recommend checking often.

Sorry to burst your bubble or correct me if im wrong, but is the small "r" not a stamp places in the guns when they were refurbished from the factory? Some also have a small diamond which was also a refurb stamp.

No I believe it means "year" as in r1953 year 1953 manufacture!

Yes, I believe they all have the little 'r', and it is not a rebuild indicator. You can see the two styles of rebuild marks here on Yoopers SKS FAQ (page 1):
