The svt-40 supply will dry up and the SKS is still being made by norinco. Is there a slightly newer cool red rifle that is a must for your collection? I know the AK47 will never be imported. But is there another rifle in large numbers that would be available that was made in the 50's or 60's that would be non-restricted? I have always wanted a FN that the British commonwealth countries used but I don't think they are non restricted. Probably because there are such an awesome rifle.

FN are prohibited.... A few 12.x still out there, but not for those of us not grandfathered... Pretty sure the RCMP would find the Type 81 is an AK variant, so no go either... :(

The SKS is still being made by Norinco? That's news to me, because all of the recent imports have been surplus Chinese military SKS's.

I thought the norinco were new rifles not chinese surplus. I don't own a Chinese SKS but I just assumed there were new something like the m305. I could be wrong.

They haven't made SKS's since the 90's. The Chinese military SKS are brand new but they were made in the '50s to the '70s and have been in storage since. Much like the unissued Russian SKS on the market now. They are not made by Norinco, Norinco is the exporter. They don't make firearms they sell them. The next cool rifle will be plasma rifles or I'm going to start riots and political movements.

Oh if the SKS dries up maybe china will fire up the factory again.

They made somewhere around 8million so I think we are good.

Didn't they make around 17 million Mosin Nagants? Supply is drying up now.:(

Jim Morrison of 'The Doors' sums it up nicely....."The future is uncertain, and the end is always near".....I'm sure he was referring to milsurps and ammo!

Unfortunately now the UN would like to see most milsurps/ammo destroyed, and what isn't destroyed, will be deemed prohib by our protective government. I think milsurps will be very limited in the future.

China made the military grade Type 56 from 1956 to 1982. Anything after that was made for civilian sales from various surplus supplies cobbled together at varying quality levels.

"Surplus" red rifles are all already being imported if available.

New, civilian variants of the type 81, or the type 97 are not surplus.
