T97 Range Report Thread

Anyone know of a good dissasembly video?

Just read the manual!! You put your right hand in. You take your right hand out. You put your right hand in. And you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey. And you turn yourself around....

Seriously look at the pictures. The only thing you really need to know is to push out the one pin, and then take the safety off so the recoil mechanism can slide out the back. When you reassemble push the bolt etc forward with the recoil part of the back past the trigger then turn the safety on. It will keep everything from sliding out.

I found this Norinco promotional video. It should explain everything!!

T97

Sooo. Took my shiny new t97 out the the range today :)

I would have to say for the first few mags I was really starting to get buyers remorse due to a couple rounds were all chewed up (they slammed into the feed ramp and bend the rounds and one pushed the bullet right back into the case).

Adjusted the gas system and really slammed the mag home with an extra vigorous slap (as they are pretty tight) .

She started to loosen up...mag after mag...better and better.

After about 40 rounds ...took apart and did a quick clean up (barrel...gas sysytem...etc) I gotta say wow does this thing get dirty lol.. the gas system was very dirty.

Very simple to dissasemble (the manual unlike many previous Norc products was actually usefull with very little "engrish" ).. not to mention the nifty lil cleaning kit in the handle :)

Put her back together and put about 150 more rounds through her she was alot smoother this time around and shooting groups that made me quite happy considering a bit of a learning curve on this rifle with the mildly odd cheek position and very short stock.
I was putting in 5-6" groups offhand @ 50yrds (with two cups off coffee shakes :p ..there are alot better shooters than me out there so I am happy with this to start with) with Norinco surplus ammo and 3" inches rested.

While very long the trigger broke crisply and cleanly and if the reset is controlled its actually a pretty crisp lil trigger..seemed crisper than the Tavor I got to try!

I ordered the optics rail and can't wait to take her out further (my eyes arnt much good on steels past 50yrds) after some more break in..after about the fifth mag the hiccups and missfeeds stopped completely.:D and she never failed to go bang though!
I will say this thing draws a crowd too !! I was talking more than shooting for a bit :)

I did notice after that next batch of rounds and after getting home...wow this gas system gets DIRTY :p.

All in all I am very happy with the T97, good job Norinco on bringing in a pretty good product for 1700 $ less than your competitor in this niche.. the rifle definetely is alot more accurate than me. AND most importantly it's NON RESTRICTED ...gotta love that !!

I hope you all enjoy yours and my little review I would love to hear about your experiences likes/dislikes/ comments or anything else you might like to share about this neat little rifle!!

Thanks.

thanks for the update...hoping to get mine soon....

It is a ton of fun ! Just finished giving it the "Norc treatment" deburring and polishing internal contact and friction surfaces/bolt/gas assembly etc and it feels silky smooth now ...headed back to the range tommorrow to run it again and see the difference !

I took my T97 out for the first time yesterday. Put 100 rounds of American Eagle FMJ through it without one hiccup at all. The rifle preformed flawlessly and was just plain fun to shoot. My gas setting was on 1 from the factory. Hardly any recoil and pretty good accuracy from 50 yards offhand....about 5 inch groupings, which is good for me. I was using DH mags and they worked fine in the gun, fed nicely and dropped free. I didn't even try the magazine that came with it as it looks fairly shoddy to me, the huge rivets and a bit of rust. I've yet to strip it but as others have said it seems fairly simple. A scope rail is on the way and I'm going to try a dot on it next. All in all I'm very happy with the rifle and can't wait to get it out again.

Wish I could get out and get some more pics/video but at the moment im Mr. Mom. I also think my T97 is going to have to go up on the chopping block here pretty soon. Just found out my wife doesnt have a job after her maternity leave is up so we'll have to tighten up a bit. (boo). I need to sell off a few guns and make sure my credit cards are at zero before that happens. Lol

can someone take pictures of the sights, front rear or both in the same time?
are all the riding area metal?
chromed barrel?

A buddy and I did some shooting this morning with our T97s. I didn't have any problems hitting the 200 and 300m gongs off a bag. I was shooting Wolf steel-cased .223 and the sights required zero adjustment.

Buddy's rifle needed elevation and windage adjustment.

A couple of interesting tidbits: my rifle, like others I've seen mentioned here, does not allow you to run the bolt fully with the rifle on safe. Buddy's rifle does.

Mine has a high two-digit serial number and Buddy's is 1901 numbers later. So, I'm guessing North Sylva has brought in 2000 rifles in this batch, or at least contracted for that many and has received rifles out of production order.

Well this thread surprised me I have to say.

Decent accuracy, now they just need a flattop to make it more aesthetically pleasing and I'd be in 100%! Maybe wait and see if they make a gen2 or something.
