Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find any info anywhere. My wife wants to come hunt with me but we have a bit of a pickle, which is why i'm asking this question. So i have my PAL and outdoors card my wife has her outdoors card but since she is a Perm Resident from the states it is taking a while for her to have her PAL in hand.

So my question is, can she hunt without a PAL or would we have to share a firearm between the two of us.

We want to go goose and duck hunting :)

Under your direct supervision, within your control, yes she can use a gun you've lent her... (Without having a PAL.)

Don't forget, she also requires a valid hunting license in the province or territory u r hunting in AND the migratory bird stamp!

Enjoy the duck/goose hunting!

Cheers

That is great news!!! We didn't know if the pal was required to use a gun legally or not while hunting, she will be excited to hear that when she gets home, then off to get our stamps! :D

That's for a judge to decide. The onus is on you to prove your innocence, not the CO to prove your guilt.

From what I read on these forums, you're guilty until proven innocent. The CO lays a charge based on what he sees or thinks or feels is going on. The procedure is the punishment...even if you're innocent you have to spend time and money to prove it in court. Before I had my hunting license I worried every time I went shooting on my friends property because I could have got accused of poaching. Hell I still worry as I don't plug my 590 to 2+1 rounds when I'm just blasting targets, yet they could accuse me of hunting and charge me.

Not really.... would you think it would be reasonable to be hunting something that requires a broadhead ie. big game right beside someone who was shooting at a target with field points?

yes actually.

if my friend got himself a crossbow, but not yet a hunting license... i think it would be perfectly reasonable that we do some target shooting together in the woods, and i bring broadheads just in case dinner wanders by.

It IS perfectly reasonable. But when did reason have anything to do with laws in this country? You know he's not poaching. He knows he's not poaching. Hell we all know he's not poaching. Does the government know (or care?) that he's not poaching?

From the "Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997" ;

proof that a person possessed, in an area usually inhabited by wildlife, a firearm, trap, decoy or other hunting or trapping device, a ferret or a specially protected raptor or other bird of prey, is proof, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, that the person was hunting or trapping, as the case may be

When your hunting keep the second bow in a locked case and you'll be fine

You don't have to be carrying a bow or gun to be charged with hunting without a license in Ontario. You can't have anyone out with you unless they're licensed.

From the regs:

HUNTING -
Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing,
chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed, injured,
captured or harassed. You need a hunting licence to do any of these things,
except where the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, states otherwise.
