What are the options out there and who makes tactical stocks for the M14?
Sage EBR-Awesome but expensive.
Rogue Chasis-Too bad bulpup conversions are prohibited.
Please, don't even mention the Archangel!

Are the any hidden gems out there?
I only wish FAB Defense made one, my 858 is awesome...
ATI,Tapco, other???
Let's see what's out there and post pics of any tactical M14's

Blackfeather - Offered by m14.ca along with handguard, muzzle brake and scope mounts. Great Canadian product and a stock that offers an Op. Rod screw which may improve accuracy.
Troy - Look great. Not too heavy but do not have any barrel tensioning system.

All of the quality stuff is big $$
Sage, troy, mcmillan.
Vltor offers a somewhat affordable option
An then there is that canadian outfit. Also big cash

If I were you I would pay close attention to 45ACPKING, aka Thomas.
Hes obviously far too modest to tell you he's constructing a tutorial on converting a nasty old Chinese plastic stock into a very nice modern stock with adjustable doo dads and possibly a shoulder thingy that goes up :)
As stated above, you are looking at large quantities of beer tokens for anything to fit the Norc M14 ( said that on purpose ;) )
Lots of guys are following Thomas's thread with baited breath, myself included.
Just remember the replacement stock sounds cheap at say 600 but then theres the butt stock , buffertube, hand guard. pistol grip, fore grip, rails, scopemount blah blah blah 1500 later and you might be close to finishing....and that doesn't include scope or shoulder thingy that goes up.
Beware of the Snakeoil salesman.
The Archangel is worthy of consideration, if a tad heavy.

Well, as soon as i receive my M305 (Hopefully in the next week), I will be ordering the Arch Angel M305 stock! Heck, at right around 300.00 it's a very good deal! I don't believe for a second I need to spend 600+ on a stock to have a decent product! Im thinking of getting the CASM hand guard with rail for the top of the M305 stock, and at the end of the day, I'll have a very decent M-14/M305 to play with!

don't overlook the cheaper option!

Ginnz!

Made in Canada, the Blackfeather "RS" is worth a serious, step-by-step comparative look to other aluminum EBR-style stocks.

Facts:

* Weight of only 2lbs. compares to US GI fibreglass stocks. See photo. See complete rifle at 8.8lbs.
* US GI pattern ergonomics (rounded and natural)
* The only aluminum stock that offers single bolt take-down for maintenance and cleaning
* Fixed Tube, Adjustable Carbine, Rifle-length AR15 butt stock compatibility
* Rearward balance (it is not a front heavy design or a middle heavy design)
* An improved swing weight at the muzzle due to rearward balance design
* Adjustable oprod guide barrel tensioner (can also be permanently locked in place) that is Match grade, quad-locked, 4140 steel and is "tunable" for hand-loaders.
* Optically precise, keyed-in-a-track picatinny side rails allows custom placement of our 4" picatinny rails
* Improved trigger ergonomics offer natural, ambidextrous contours in trigger area and a long LOP allows for faster transitions from extended safe
* The only aluminum EBR-style stock that allows zero retention upon action removal
* The only aluminum EBR-style stock that allows "upper swapping" of a second, optionally configured M14 in the same rifle stock much like the AR15 system
* A system that takes advantage of rearward balancing scope mounting options (see PDF Stepped Plane Optics on the M14-type Rifle).
Link: http://www.m14.ca/articles/M14.ca_Stepped_Plane_Optics.pdf
* A removable rear butt stock adapter that leaves the stock back end open to future butt stock options
* Precise CNC machined receiver bedding based on original US GI drawings ensure tight receiver to stock fit (during prototyping bedding blocks were sent to several US and Canadian armorers for testing in multiple M14/M1A/M305 receivers)
* A better or comparable price to existing aluminum stocks

Any questions about the Blackfeather RS can be addressed via email or direct telephone as below. I am available 8am to 8pm 7 days a week to answer questions or to discuss builds on this platform.

I went with VLTOR

+1 for the blackfeather. I don't own one yet, but I do have the CASM mount, and I will vouch for m14.ca quality. I am just about finished tricking out my Springfield M1A. Next is saving up for a nice size gun safe and then it will be a Norc of some kind and the blackfeather....

Canuck where did you get that Vltor stock and how much does it run? I am also in the boat of looking for a cool stock setup, but most of them are so expensive after you add up all the buttstocks and extra pieces needed. What is wrong with the Arch Angel stock? Does it have issues? I really like the look of the KAC or Troy handguard, but still need a stock for them.

Zero issues with the Archangel great value.
As you say, once you start adding on the bits, a 600 dollar stock soon runs into 1000 +
They are a bit heavy depending how much furniture you put on ( mine is 14lb 6 oz or about 7 kg )

Agreed! I'm leaning toward the VLTOR... You typically get what you pay for, but it's hard to justify dropping a $400 rifle into a $1000 stock. What kind of accurracy can one expect anyway? Tough to justify $1500 total on a 2 MOA rifle!

I just ordered the Choate telescoping stock from Wolverine Supplies, hoping it gets here this week. Looks like a solid tacticool stock. And it's not a hokey bagillion rail chassis either.

"...tactical stocks..." Geezuz. There's no such thing. The word 'tactical' is a marketing term only. ANY stock is tactical. As is any rifle.
