Thinking about picking one up and was just wondering if they are worth it. Just going to using it around the farm and picking off birds when I go moose hunting. Any comments would be gladly accepted thanks :)

I quite like mine. It looks cheap and feels like a toy and the offset stock takes a little getting used to, but the darned thing is a little tack driver. I'm glad I bought it.

I would like to try the little badger, seems like a good pack gun, but i already have the 10/22 Takedown, which i think would be much more reliable that the henry

The barrel is a thin metal wrapped in plastic. It was the first one I ever bought ar7 sounded cool and it was in James Bond..... Can ya blame me? Sight peeps suck(good luck in low light) defeats the take down to have to carry a red dot. Terrible accuracy, I'd buy another one only if I needed something that floats.... I suspect if you don't duck tape the but cap it will leak and get your firearm parts wet.

I've looked at getting one myself over the last 20+ years, but in the end I decided instead on the Norinco JW-20 (Browning SA-22 clone). I expected the Norinco to be functional if junky, but it turned out to be a nice looking, nice handling, reliable & accurate little takedown, for about $100 less than a Henry.

I'd also say that you could take a look at the Papoose.. Mine has been reliable, accurate, and great for packing around (stainless as a bonus).

I have 4 of them, not a single problem with any of them. They've all got at least 1000 rounds down the pipe, but my main one is close to 10k I'm sure.

The comments about it being 'junk' are confusing. If you buy it hoping for a precision long distance rifle, it's junk for sure. Just like how if you buy a 4-cyl Escape to do all your heavy towing it's junk.

Use the rifle for what it is intended for and you'll be fine - you want to shoot 'minute of bird' within 100 yards, you'll have a great time with it.

It's also the most packable. I've shot the little badger - fun, but single shot, and doesn't pack down as well. I've also used the papoose, but it too doesn't take down as nice and requires a pack. The Henry packs down into it's stock, which is like the size of your forearm, and that includes 3 7-shot mags. (comes with 2, but if you leave one in the receiver you can add a third.)

For less then $200 it's a no-brainer. I'm not a brand hoor, but I'd sooner take that then a chinese clone of a different gun. To each his own. Just make sure you get the Henry version - there are notable quality control issues with the Charter Arms version, as well as even earlier iterations.

The action is tight on them - you will get FTE, etc on subsonic and low v ammo, but I feed it CCI or Blaser bulk ammo and it goes bang every time.

you have to remember the henry was meant for a survival rifle and a survival rifle only not a plinker and it fits its role nicely it will get you food when needed its more compact and lighter then most and can be put into a survival kit/pack easier then most

I have one, I agree with this completely.

I looked into the "Survival Rifle" concept latelly and ended up getting a 10/22 takedown. It's very light and i intend to leave it behind the seat in the truck during hunting season.

Bit of a back story:

A friend and I got stuck in the bush 160kms from the nearest town a few years ago. We ended up walking a good ways out before some one found us. No food and only dirty creek water for three days. I had an 870 with me. Never again. When put in that situation, the 870 felt like it was 50 pounds. The ammo another 50. When travelling FAR into the bush, a lightweight rifle is extremely nice to have. I won't be doing those kind of trips again without one.

I like mine too, it was my first firearm maybe that has something to do with it but its pretty cool, has a lot going for it. From what I understand the newer Henry ones are better quality, which is the one I have. If you want something that breaks down easily and is very transportable its for you.

I have the Henry Survival as well. (Also the Marlin Papoose and Chiappa Little Badger). The Henry is a very compact piece, everything in the stock and super light. 1000 yard gun, definitely not. Survival, yes. I don't use much inexpensive bulk ammo. I use CCI mini mag, stinger and high velocity, with no issues. I had an earlier model, but I like the newest model better. For the price they are, you can't really go wrong. Buy one. If you don't like it, the life expectancy is about 1 day on the EE. My .02 (US 1.94 cents) worth.

Have you looked at the 10/22 takedown? I love mine, it is super light, you can get a ton of accessories, super fast assembly, high cap magasine are availible.

I never cleaned the rifle (except barrel ounce) before I started getting FTE/FTF and that was around the 4k rounds mark.
