Very pleased! Thank you Sergey and Al (Westrifle).

All-matching metal in its original blued finish, and in absolutely pristine condition! The stock was replaced during the arsenal refurbishment process with a 1950's "new production" darker laminate. The nice thing about this stock, aside from its colour and superior strength, is that it was made specifically for the 1949 variant. The forestock is shallower than later years and has a proper channel for the cruciform bayonet. 1949 refurbs typically have recycled hardwood stocks that were modified to fit, including what is often an "angle grinder" job to widen/lengthen the bayonet channel. When it comes to refurbs, I prefer them being arsenal fitted with new laminate stocks and with all-matching metal (of course). This one is certainly a keeper!

There is very little evidence of wear on any metal part. Based on its condition and lack of wear indicators, I would say this one didn't see much use!

Pictures speak louder than words:

BTW, is that cleaning rod wear on the muzzle/crown (7 o'clock position on muzzle), or is that just the way the muzzle was polished during manufacture?

Oh, and I think the bayonet is very slightly bent near the tip. :) My OCD is clicking in again. :) I will leave that well enough alone.

I think the mark at the muzzle was from manufacturing, assuming that the muzzle guide was always used for cleaning. Its a very nice piece, i was looking at it but i have already two 49 hardwood from Westrifle as well, pristine condition like yours:)

This is what my 49 looks like...i had wondered about the authenticity of it until now. While I certainly appreciate it, man yours is fantastic!! That laminate is super hot

Huh, didn't know that the earlier models had cruciform bayonets. I always wondered where the Chinese got that idea. Guess I need to go open up my wallet some more.....

I also bought the last laminate stock from Westrifle... I plan to install it on my early 1950 "shooter"...
The recycled hardwood stock that came with it, while nice and shiney, doesn't suit a refurb in my opinion.
