Pauls,
I don't think the candidates using this forum, Ontario ipsc forum or any other for that matter, is wrong. It's great idea.
It should be to discuss their platforms and for them to answer questions from it's members.... as long as no dirt is slung and it's simply answering questions, and exchange of ideas....and adding any facts isn't so wrong either.
Pat, don't think you need to worry about your reputation or chances being elected would be hurt here, most will understand and appreciate what you have to say (again keep it focused on the issues to help ipsc ontario), and for those members who already know you, all is good.
Cbabes, you're new and not known to many people, but those who do, know you're a good guy who loves shooting, and those two characteristics are good start already.
the others running, they're all good people who love the sport and have positive intentions for the sport, but who will be better in actual performance, will only be seen after the fact and for now, these questions and answers are all we have to do out best in making an informed decision.
As for Eugene, he definitely loves the sport and wants it to improve. In my opinion, his contribution to the sport on the tech side has been great. Though, I'm not aware of all things behind the scenes that he's done, there might be more good to be told...
But, in my honest opinion, his interests are not friendly to all level of members, and his personality in how he deals with other areas of the sport is not so friendly, as most are aware, and me posting such right now is not news or surprise to anyone....
He, as the other candidates, are welcome to answer the questions and concerns of our members here or on our Ontario forum, if not blocked, etc....
So, have at it and I hope to hear from the other candidates on any questions posted.
My questions to all candidates willing to answer here:......even though, according to others, I suck as a shooter, and I'm not a Mike B. or other Top Cdn shooter, I believe I could be of help to a new shooter, so I let a BOD member know that I offer myself to be a mentor to a new shooter, and to let me know when a member in my area is willing to accept my offer...but nothing came of it...
So, what/how would you get a mentor-ship program running ?
Do you think this is good idea or not so much and not necessary ?
If this gets redirected to Ontario's forum or stays here, lets keep it going with the questions and answers from members and candidates...and no mud slinging between candidates....
Thoughtfully written and candid.
My wife and I are both new IPSC shooters. We have competed in over 55 matches combined this year, and truly love the sport.
I don't normally interject with dry and to the point statements (as most of you Ontario shooters that know Gail and Rob can attest.....I like to keep things "light"), but sometimes it’s the what I do.
I treat each match as a sport. I am hyper competitive, but on Monday morning, I go to work, earn $, and strive to be able to contribute to the things I enjoy most in the world (family, friends, fun......in that order).
My wife is my whole of my family, and my best friend.........so that leaves a lot of open energy to fun!
Fun is competing, sporting with common ilked folks and throwing the ego out to be praised or decimated.........usually the later....lol. But its an energy and adrenaline charged sport, … one that I gravitate to in all ways competitive. I trust most members are all to a lesser or greater extent, similar. We are members……competitors.
As a governing body, however, the business of IPSC must be first and foremost.
Yup, IPSC as an organization is a business. Not a playground, not an ego boost, not a platform for personal agendas. It’s a business, clear and cut.
My professional life (don't let Gail read that) fortunately puts me in an executive (CEO) position, of which I have been enjoying for some time. That is business. Pays bills, can play......(go back to top for clarity).
My responsibilities are (here goes the order thing again) to my shareholders in executing a business plan, profitability and operational control, and social compliance in all ways.
I look at the IPSC organization the same. The board needs to be accountable and responsible to the membership, sustain and expand as a business unit (profitability), and be publically safe, sound, and marketable (wanted to put ###y in here as it sounded better but trying to be somewhat serious......those of you that know me will know that tough). We need to establish a macro view of our short and long term goals. What will we do with membership growth? Public acceptance in all ways? Marketing? Legal planning? True club/range synergistic expansion plans?
I trust those working to engage in the board requirements of directing the future of the IPSC Ontario movement will embrace the same.
In my short time in the IPSC world, I have had exposures, discussions, and fortunately embraced growing friendships with many of the board possible incumbents……..and I am hoping to see a true development and growth of our “business” to encourage future sustainability.
Rant done…..Gail just did the shoulder tap that I was to stop typing and get back to loading her ammo…..shackled to the loading bench again………
