My application for pal/rpal was recieved sept 3 according to canada post. Rcmp site says it was recieved on the 9th. Whatever

October 7 it finally said "completed initial processing blah blah blah."

I will be hitting the 45 day mark on wednesday, if i go by what canada post says, it will be over 45. I think its time to start doing some consistant calling!

Thoughts?

Hey all,

Also from beautiful QC. I sent my RPAL application out on Wednesday, September 18th 2013, and they haven't completed initial processing yet.

I'll probably wait until next week to call again (I called last Thursday, ~28 days later, and they confirmed it hadn't appeared in their system yet).

On another note, a good friend who put me as a second reference in his RPAL application sent it out in early- to mid-august, and he nor I haven't received a call yet. He's very patient though, he said he wouldn't make any calls to the Miramichi offices to try to hurry it up.

Here's to hoping that it'll come through soon.
(until then, I'll have time to introduce myself more formally on these forums :) )

I think ill give it about another week or 2. That way ill be able to bypass the "we are very busy due to hunting season" excuse. And have more verbal firepower when they are into the 60-70 day mark.

Just wait it will come, mine took 13 months from the time I sent it till I had it in my hand. Called the cfo in sask everyday for 3 months, left a message everytime and he never called back. Your ar the mercy of these pricks, good luck

13 months ?! Thats a hell of a wait. Was there anything wrong on your application or something ? I'd almost understant a waiting period if this a free licence that anyone could ask for... But you pay for courses, pay to ship it, pay for your licence... 28 days ''cool off'' period is the maximum it should take.

Anything longer than the 45 days deserves a complaint honestly

I mailed mine for the second time (canada post returned it to me after a month with no reason) in mid June. Got a call for my interview the friday after labour day and one of my references did his the following monday. I got it in the mail a week later. Even 2 months after I mailed it, I couldn't even see that they had received it online so I called in mid Aug.

It takes awhile sometimes.

Its not so much the waiting that i mind. Ok i lied, its the waiting that i mind. With my luck ill get a letter in the mail in 2 weeks stating that I forgot to dot an "i" or cross a "t".

In the meantime ill be making an origami glock17 so i can at least pretend im at the range with my freinds.

k well my references were called and so i called in. they let me do the interview and were very helpful. it will be issued pending final approval with CFO. 50 days from start to this point.

Nothing wrong on my application, no prior criminal history, nothing. Id complain but honesty, the Canadian firearms program wont care one bit..

Once I found out my app was at the CFOs I called their office, spoke to a very nice and friendly lady, approved it over the phone and had it in the mail 3 days later. I wouldn't leave it to rot on the CFOs desk, she was able to pull up my file in seconds.

mine took just over five months. i had called in a number of times, every one was pleasent enough but no one helped. after about my 10th phone call, the lady on the other end told me that there was a "manual override" neccessary to keep the process going and she wasnt sure why no one had done it because it was due for over 2 months, she did it and 10 days later i had my card

I actually did call again a day ago, they said its just waiting final approval. Blah blah blah. Any suggestions on what to say to them to pick up the pace? Like maybe.... "I aint getting any younger here"

I'm not sure who you're calling, but at this point you want to find the number for your province CFO and call them directly. They seem to have made it a little harder to find and might just be an extension on the firearms number. When I finally got through to the office she was able to pull up my app talk to me for a few minutes and approve it on the spot and I got it shortly after, even on a holiday weekend.

Try extension 9026, that's all I could find. Like I said they seem to have made it a bit harder to contact them directly. I can't give any advice on physically walking through their door.

I have no issues calling CFP a couple of time a week and check their website as well. Although I am only renewing and have sent it from where I currently live in NJ (in preparation for my move back to Ontario), received 9/23, completed initial processing 10/28, hoping to get my interview in a weeks time. They said they are backlogged 6 weeks in processing applications. I guess that's a good sign with all the new applicants maybe ?

You would think renewing is only an administrative process and not have to go through the interview process again.

FYI, "they" track each time and how many times you call them. A buddy of mine had an issue getting his RPAL approved and his app was redirected to his area's local Police Division for final approval. When he called, they said "Oh Mr. Smith, it shows here that you called quite a number of times. Why the hurry to get your license?" He was waiting for approval since the beginning of June.
