Ok first of don't flame me, this is NOT MY RIFLE and I would never neglect my sks or any rifle for that matter. Just thought I'd share this with you guys as I get a kick out of some people's laziness and neglect.

Ok so my good friend doesn't not have his PAL yet but he really wanted an sks (loved mine so much) so we went together and I bought it for him and agreed I would keep in in my Possesion until he got his pal.

Now the deal was even though I'm the legal owner of this rifle it is still HIS rifle. Therefore after shooting he must clean it and maintain it as his own (he's well aware of corrosive ammo and it's properties). I always clean my rifles right after shooting and I told him he's more then welcome to come over after shooting (or anytime) and have a few beers while we clean them.

Needless to say he got lazy, never came over and here's the results. Now I have the rest of my Saturday planned cleaning his rifle because I can't stand too see it like this anymore haha. I'll post some after pics when I get done.

And oh ya, this is about three weeks since shooting roughly 200 rounds

^^READ BEFORE YOU FLAME ME^^

A guy at work gave me an SKS in similar condition. He left it for a couple months without cleaning. It was so bad that I had to use a hammer and punch to get the piston out of the gas tube. It cleaned up fine, and still works great. Now I don't feel too bad if it foesn't get cleaned right away.

Not that bad really. I would have never put my self in your position either though. Just my opinion. If he wanted the rifle bad enough, he would have taken the course and could be waiting for his PAL in the mail as we speak. Sounds like he took advantage of your generosity. Why buy the cow, when the milk is free?

The first time I shot corrosive I cleaned my SKS really well but was so paranoid that maybe I did it wrong or something that I checked it three times over the next few weeks LOL... better safe that sorry

Oh FYI I love cleaning my guns.... beer time

After a day of shooting I personally find it very relaxing to sit down and clean my firearms. When I go to the range it is usually with a couple of bolt actions, a couple of handguns and my SKS's, so most of the time I could have up to 6 firearms to take care of in the evening and like I said, enjoy every minute of it.

Yeah man, i did the same thing. I think it's always good to check on any firearm that maybe has been sitting for longer periods too. Just a quick once over with a light. Bore and action and outside of the gun mainly, providing you don't want to do a full strip.

So What? I can take some pictures of a 12gauge pump shotgun that is just as rusty , yet it never fired a corrosive round ever. Guns will rust if you don't clean them. Period. It has very little to do with ammo.

30 years ago we shot truck loads of surplus ammo, and we didn't know what corrosive ammo meant, we just cleaned and oiled them before we put them away.

Clean and oil your gun when you have it out. Thats how the previous owners of these rifles in Russia did it 80+ years ago, and they still work today. They couldn't read, they didn't know math, and they had no Internet, but they knew how to oil a gun. Looks like they were smarter than a whole bunch of gun owners today.

Haha well me and you see it differently my friend, you think I've been taken advantage of but the way I see it I have a free rifle and case of ammo!
